Leading From Weakness
The American Spectator ^ | April 10, 2009 | George H. Wittman

Posted on 04/11/2009 5:10:45 AM PDT by Scanian

President Obama's highly publicized revival of the left's Cold War mantra of creating a nuclear free world by creating complex arms agreements provided an excellent cover for the testing of a far more practical and immediate strategic policy change.

When the White House wanted to launch a policy trial balloon in the past it would drift a few suggestions in the direction of the Washington Post or the New York Times. The Obama administration under the guidance of chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, however, has introduced a little misdirection into that old political device. For Obama the new water carrier is the British-owned, internationally distributed, Financial Times.

"US may cede to Iran's nuclear ambition," read the April 4/5 headline, well timed to follow their favorite American politician's self-proclaimed triumphal European tour and simultaneous with Obama's nuclear arms reduction speech.

The "balloon" carried the very sensitive test message that, as the FT suggested, unnamed U.S. officials "are considering whether to accept Iran's pursuit of uranium enrichment." A policy review by the Obama White House supposedly is investigating if the U.S. has any choice but to accept Iran's position that it will not stop developing its capability to create weapons grade material.

Now the White House sits back and waits to see if its new tack in international security affairs will gain any traction.

Obama's plan appears so far to be based on the premise that world leadership is neither desirable nor an inevitable responsibility of "the greatest power in the world." It would be well for the new American president to read the histories of the ancient world. Great powers have no choice. The exercise of military power is always implicit in the maintenance of political power. And the pain never can be avoided -- only diminished.

Zero the puppet, implementing the interests of internationalists/globalists, will not heed an "american spectator". Their plan continues apace.

I feel you are right about that, and jimmah is cheering him on so he can loose the title of worst president ever. History will tell if Hussein will get the towfer:

Worst president ever and worst ex president ever. So far, jimmah holds that title as well.

I'm afraid our new president hasn't read much history or, if he has, he hasn't learned anything from it. He doesn't like the fact that the U.S. is a great power and he believes that the actions of the U.S. are at the root of all of the world's problems. The U.S.'s support of Israel and its supposed insensitivity toward Muslims are causing terrorist, I mean "misunderstood," nations like Iran to behave badly. The very fact that we have nuclear weapons, in Obama's mind, means that were are creating an arms race, that we are prompting "terrorists," I mean "misunderstood" Muslims, to try to obtain these weapons.

The Obama Administration's policy of appeasing terrorists and rogue states will be disastrous. It will de-stabilize the Middle East and it will encourage attacks on Americans around the world and right here in the U.S. Weakness engenders contempt, not respect. The jihadists who seek the destruction of our nation and our way of life must be celebrating his election since they know that Obama is a coward.

Maybe this is a stretch, but isn't this "I don't need to take responsibility" mindset pretty much the same as that the absent fathers take in the poor black (and other abandoned single-mother) communities?

It is also similar to the "I don't want to be a role model" attitude of mis-behaving popular sports stars and celebrities.

This world view makes me sad more than anything, it is so profoundly destructive.

obama is not , nor will he, take drastic action against the pirates. Why? Because his fight is not with the pirates. His fight is against the American citizens that voted against him. He also lumps those that voted for him in the American citizen category. I do not.

He will soon cut the military budget down to nothing, while increasing the funding of his private army. Once his private army is in place and position, them he will move against the American citizen. It will be swift , brutal, and decisive.

I’m afraid you are right. He’s after us conservatives big time and he’s got a whole lot of helpers.

Israel will deal with Iran. Italy and France will deal with the pirates. In the end, it will all show Obama to be weak and feckless.

The scariest result will be another terrorist attack on U.S. soil due to Obama’s weakness and inability to act forcefully. Where will it take place? A Midwestern city to show the corn pones of the heartland that they can be reached? Chicago perhaps as a message to Obama? Maybe Disneyland or Disneyworld as an attack on an American institution of decadence and commercialism?

It is coming. Obama is making certain that reality. He’s too busy eating his St. Louis pizza to be bothered with being President.

“This truly is Carter’s second term”

When Carter was President, most of the country still understood what socialism was and knew how our institutions function.
Today, only 53% of Americans prefer capitalism to socialism (Rasmussen), and 60% believe that Congress has and spends its own (rather than our) money (Pew poll).
You are witnessing a major redefinition of the world and irreversible changes in our own country. Carter was a joke. This is not.

I don’t know if it is so much an attitude that Obama doesn’t need to take responsibility but rather that his foreign policy is based on the idea that the U.S. is somehow to blame for the misdeeds of tyrants and terrorists around the world. That if only this country weren’t so smug and so superior, if only we didn’t use our military, then other countries wouldn’t hate us so much. I think his attitude is based on a disdain for American values and his desire to subordinate American interests and sovereignty to the interests of the world.
