WASHINGTON (AP) — True to form, President Barack Obama is striking a cautious, low-profile public stance as the piracy crisis plays out. As the situation changes by the hour, Obama advisers say the new commander in chief is being kept abreast of the developments, including Capt. Richard Phillips' foiled escape attempt Friday. But the president has yet to say a word in public about the standoff, now three days old. The approach is quintessential Obama, who as a candidate and now as president has tended to let tenuous dramas unfold without remark unless he absolutely must, lest his words or actions adversely influence a precarious situation. "I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak," Obama said pointedly last month when a reporter questioned why it took him several days to express outrage over the big bonuses American International Group doled out while receiving federal bailout money.

...as Hillary would like to define it.

That was the purpose of the nervous giggle/chuckle during her comments re the situation: to minimize its gravity.

...Kerry is gonna have Senate hearings.

He'd better hurry if he intends them to save the captain.

"Mark my words...It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama...And he's gonna need help....we're gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it's not gonna be apparent initially, it's not gonna be apparent that we're right." - Joe Biden

So far so good. The world keeps testing Bambi, and so far it's not apparent that he's right.

The president who took office in January has proved willing in many cases to field off-the-cuff questions from reporters at the close of events at the White House, even on matters differing from his focus that day.

But not in this case.

When reporters asked the president directly about the incident on Thursday, he demurred. Instead, he stayed on his message of the day, saying: “Guys, we’re talking about housing right now.” At the end of a White House meeting with his economic advisers on Friday, reporters asked when the Obama girls’ dog was arriving. He laughed and said, “Oh man, now that’s top secret.” He also said he looked forward to seeing the reporters at Monday’s Easter egg roll.

They asked about the pirates. No answer.

It’s not a US ship. It is a Dutch ship with an American crew.

As far as schwacking the province where these people came from, a better plan would be to take out the shipping they use to carry out their piracy. Fewer causalties and collateral damage.

“The spin I heard on FOX tonight was that it’s merely piracy and the POTUS has more important things to do and to address it would elevate these criminals.”
“Zero is un-freaking-believable!!!”

It seems to me this would be part to his job duty and in the Constitution as compared to the other things he's doing.

From the article: "On Thursday, the second day of the incident, the White House portrayed Obama's role as an attentive listener who was getting frequent progress reports — but not getting directly involved in operations."

Sounds like his role is no different than mine.

Asked by reporters about the piracy Thursday, Obama declined to respond. Same again on Friday.

It is very simple to understand. He doesn't know what to say or how to respond. Most Americans haven't figured this out yet, but Hussein is clearly in way over his head as POTUS. His tactic will be to hide, defer or prattle foolishly and incoherently when he is faced with really difficult problems. It is the MSM that is trying to delude the American people into the belief that he is smart and engaged.

It's sailing under a US flag. It doesn't matter who owns the ship.

'a better plan'? When you're messing with the most powerful nation on earth, expect to pay dearly for your mistakes. That goes for everyone. Set an example and don't back down from it, period.

The next news report of Somali pirates should come in 2109, not 2009. My plan guarantees 100 years of pirate-free navigation, yours might buy 10 at best.

I agree, this whole mess smells like racism. Obama as pres is not suppose to bow to anyone but he favors Islam and blackness not white folks like the Queen of England or a heroic captain.
