From Pennsylvania Ave. to the Lone Star State: Bushes Easily Adapt to a Simpler Life
The Washington Post ^ | April 10, 2009 | Eli Saslow

DALLAS -- The new couple at 10141 Daria Place accepted an invitation to a neighborhood dinner party last month. The guest list totaled eight. The main dish was chicken potpie. George and Laura Bush left their cul-de-sac in the back of a dark sedan, exited through a Secret Service checkpoint and rode down streets bordered by lawn signs adorned with gigantic Ws to welcome them home.

It had been a bad week for the country. President Obama spoke on television about the burdens he had inherited in office: anti-American sentiment, two wars, a recession. But it had been a good week at 10141 Daria Place. The Bushes shared stories over dinner about their return to Texas after eight years in Washington. They had improved their sprinkler system and hung custom-made green drapes. Neighbors had brought over homemade cookies and a potted houseplant.

Not until late in the dinner party did the former president speak in any depth about his two terms in the White House. He told one of his favorite stories, about a trip to Bucharest, Romania, in 2002. More than 200,000 people had come to hear him speak in a town square, he said. The sky turned dark. A cold rain fell. The Romanian president introduced him and -- look at that! A huge rainbow emerged on the horizon, and the Romanians burst into applause.

"Magical," Bush said.

I'm a proud 33 percenter, also.

I never doubted that Bush made his decisions based on what he thought was best for the country, everything considered.

Meaning, sometimes he had to compromise on details or let the pols get away with earmarks in order to move forward on something important.

Politics is the art of the possible, while envisioning the ideal.

Does it bother anyone else that the Compost Heap managed to publicize the Bush’s new address TWICE in this blurb?

GWB’s place in history is assured ... as the man who refused to stop illegal immigration and in fact encouraged it. This alone has doomed our country.

Obama is scum. No doubt about it. As for George W. Bush, I would be very happy never to see his globalist face again, or hear any thing he has to say.

Bush set the table for Obama with the TARP money. I can’t forget that.

Glad you feel the way you do, but I have mixed emotions about GWB.

After 911 he should have closed our borders, he didn't and now we have BHO going to make legal 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants.
Of course they have famliy to bring along too.

"political satirists across the country fear that Obama's unquestionable intelligence and jaw-dropping charisma will result in a lack of comedy material."

Frankly, I find that statement howlingly funny! With his performance so far, I have to ask, WHAT intelligence and charisma? I've seen him make a series of stupid blunders, and he has a scowl on his face most of the time.

The TRUTH is that they're all afraid of being called racist if they DARE try to make fun of That One in any way.

Nah, because the article also mentioned the security you have to go through to get to his cul-de-sac. It also stated that George and Laura are going to pay to have a gate put in at that entrance, which will benefit their neighbors on the circle, as well.

Uh, actually he did close the borders after 9-11! Well at least he did for awhile. I distinctly remember reading that at the time; because the Mexican Pres., Vinc. Fox, was said to be unhappy about it. However, even he said that he had to understand the reasons behind it!

Apparently, he had been trying to get then Pres. Bush to work with him, and allow some Mexicans to come in to join their families and to work. Then 9-11 happened, and that went down the tube!

I also noticed that Pres. Bush and Mex. Pres. Fox were never quite so friendly after that.

Anyone find it strange that WaPo finds it necessary to post the address of the Bush residence in the first sentence of their article?

Bush’s address is in consecutive paragraphs. I don’t find it strange coming from the WaCompost...It’s a calling card, advertisement, for any would be assassin.

A friend of mine sent me an email a couple of weeks ago full of “funny” one-liners from late night tv re: GWB. I replied, “the current occupant of the Oval Office has supplied far more material to those idiots on TV and I’ve yet to hear them use any of it! They are so in love with this buffoon that they just can’t find the guts to make fun of him, no matter what the blunder or lie is.” He didn’t respond - guess he didn’t like my answer!

It is essential. We are the next wave of those that care enough to in this case save, instead of create--like our founding fathers did for us. This is the moment in time where we step up or fall in.

Choices matter.
