Did he or didn't he? Did President Obama bow to Saudi King Abdullah at the G-20 meeting in London? That question is creating a bit of a dust-up in the blogosphere. The brouhaha reminds me of the tsk-tsking a few years back when President George W. Bush was photographed holding hands with then-Crown Prince Abdullah.
I'm uncomfortable with images of hand-holding and something that looks like a bow. But let's face it -- no one would be bowing, holding hands or in other ways showering obsequious shows of respect on this monarch if Saudi Arabia weren't sitting on the world's largest reserves of oil. We're going to be fawning over these potentates so long as we're guzzling oil.
That said, the president of the United States does not bow to kings. He is not only the chief of government, he's our head of state -- the equal of any monarch. The White House says Obama didn't bow, that he "grasped (Abdullah's) hand with two hands and he's taller than King Abdullah."
Sorry, but a videotape on YouTube doesn't quite back that up. Obama clearly bends his body toward the Arabian monarch, and Obama doesn't grasp both the king's hands until he's standing straight up. As for the he's-taller argument, the 6-foot-1-inch Obama towers over a lot of people, so we'd have seen him bowing during handshakes many times if that were the explanation. Furthermore, the king had his hand extended, so Obama didn't have to reach down an inordinate amount to grab it.

One thing to watch for. If the Saudi King comes to Washington and the President dips our flag to the Saudi flag. Our flag is never dipped to any other nation. Even during WWII, when the Olympics were held in Germany, all other nations dipped their flag to Germany, but not the American flag.
Bambi bowed in respect to his benefactor.
Maybe when the MSM wakes up and realizes the Magic Muslim is nothing more than a shill for the radical left will this country be able to get back on track.
Someone is a Muslim. He works for the saudis and refuses to show his BC and is NOT a natural born citizen aka usurper.
Chicago gave us this nightmare. The Tribune and Sun Times bear responsibility. I am glad one reporter has some guts.
What Obama Told Abdullah as He Bowed to BIG OIL
(A 13 second YouTube video)
The castigation of our “president” for the bow should be at least as severe as the one for John Adams, who wanted to address the president as “His Highness”. It was rejected then, and should be thoroughly rebuked now.
Can we at least kiss some pirate butt?
LOL!!!
I know. I was just amusing myself.
We collectively (through the President) or individually should bow to no man or woman. This is one reason that this nation was founded at great human cost.
I have a phrase for what Obama did....
“cau tau bow”
Al Jazeera has some very good propaganda video now!

Many years ago, I watched ‘the Irish in America’ documentary on A&E. Here’s what the narrator stated:
The United States has never lowered the flag even during the 1908 London Olympics when American-Irish immigrants (participating as American Olympians) who had a deep hatred for the monarchy/Queen who were marching during the opening ceremony were said to have THREATENED the U.S. flag-bearer with death if the American flag dipped when passing the Queen.
Less honour than a drunken Irish soldier;

“Private John Moyse, of the 3rd (East Kent) Regiment (commonly known as “the Buffs”) refused to kowtow to his captors. Apparently he had “declared he would not prostrate himself before any Chinaman alive,” and as a result, he was summarily executed. The poem refers to Moyse as a young Kentish farmboy; it is quite possible that he was, in fact, a middle-aged Irishman. However, the poem was written on the strength of newspaper reports, and it is likely that Doyle was unaware of the discrepancies.
Reagan didn't bow, hold hands, kiss, or engage in any other type of disgusting display of submission when meeting the Saudis. He did what American men are supposed to -- shake hands. Been a long time since a real conservative sat in the Oval Office.
Not even? How bad has historical illiteracy gotten? A U. S. President should bow before no one, save God. Especially a king.
“That said, the president of the United States does not bow to kings.”
NO American bows to any royalty. It’s why we fought a revolution.

Excellent point about Reagan. (How soon we forget.) Thank you.
This raises the question: What was our energy policy during the Reagan Administration?
From what I rememeber, the U.S. was getting about the same percentage of oil from Saudi Arabia back in the ‘80s as we’re getting now. If anything, the % was higher back then.
We have to find some way to really attach that label around their collective necks.
Nobody believes anymore that they are unbiased, but perhaps the “radical” label would be unhelpful for them.
