that stretches credulity. Why? Just means that two mags, not just one, are already loaded. It's actually faster because it's easier to drop one & grab another that's already loaded than to reload one that's empty.

"in just over a minute ... Ballistics reports show that 41-year-old Jiverly Wong fired 87 times from a 9mm Beretta and 11 times from a .45-caliber handgun" Assuming standard 15 round mag size for the 9mm, this is at least 4 mag swaps on the 9mm, a 10 round mag (10+1) in the .45, plus the time to fire the rounds, in "just over a minute" ... and assuming the crowd he was firing into was corralled in some way, he wouldn't have to be aiming very carefully, he could off hand the .45 thru the first mag, then drop it and start the swaps on the 9mm ... so I can see how it could be done.
Historically, in terms of paranoid-delusional immigrants on shooting sprees, this has to be some sort of record.

bump fire. some people are absolute beasts at it.

I’m curious why a man about to shoot up a school full of unarmed immigrants, and blow his own head off, would wear body armor?

Going through two boxes is one minute with pre-loaded magazines is not difficult if the shooter has basic proficiency with the weapons. What is making this difficult to swallow is that after the first several rounds the targets were no longer static. If the room was reasonably large even with a large group of people. he still would have had to take some time to aim given the number of fatalities.
I'm certain that it didn't take him long, but just over a minute? I'm very skeptical.

They’re still pretty densely concentrated, especially as they try to escape via a very few narrow exits acting as target bottlenecks. 98 rounds, 13 terminated, that’s a pretty low 13% hit rate for fairly large close-range targets. No doubt he could do it.
I’ll grant we’re likely not hearing the full story.

In NY, 15-round mags are illegal. I know this because I have to unload my 12-round mags if I return to NY after being on active duty. Not if the are preban.

Huh? Time to aim? When it missed most of his shots? In doors? Have you ever shot a gun? Not in a video game?

Wow. What's "wow" is 97 rounds and only 13 people killed. That's pathetic. No wonder he shot himself. He's lucky he could hit his own head. What a loser.

If you feel the need to insult folks, go to Youtube and do it. Better yet, take your act to DU and fire your shots there. My hope is that you can fire 98 shots in that target rich environment with a better body count before your taken out. I don’t appreciate the insult.

Cowards, yes, although, as usual, such dishonor is shallowly hidden behind he veil of "policy" and "just obeying orders". One of the reasons I would not be a cop.
Remember too this Age of Unreason in which we live, where cowardice is too often hailed as "courage"...

I dont appreciate the insult.
It was a question. Take it as an insult if you like. It was a fair question. Shooting at erratically moving targets does not take time consuming careful aim. Because they are moving erratically extra time is worthless. You just take your best shot and then take another one. It is pretty obvious from his rounds fired to kills ratio that he was just blazing away at anything that moved. It does not take any sort of aiming or skill to empty a couple magazines into a crowded room and kill a few people. While I highly doubt they have an accurate estimate of how long he was shooting it does not seem unlikely that it could have been that fast.
And yes, I could do better than that in a target rich environment. Anyone with real handgun training could have. Not that I ever would. Fortunately most people with a decent level of training are not that moronic, unimaginative and just plain evil.

I expect that this guy's goal was always to kill himself after achieving the maximum possible body count.
The purpose of the body armor would have been to prevent an armed person from stopping him as he went about his business: body shots wouldn't take him down -- he could just keep killing until he either got shot in the head by somebody, or did it himself.

Never mind. I see your profile answers it. And it appears you would most likely be able to do a better ‘job’ than that too.

It must be that when confronted with the horror of what he just did he must have had a minor attack of conscience or something. Why else stop when you still have ammo and targets? I am guessing when the saw the results of what he was doing he just decided to end things early.

No. You framed your insult as an interrogative. You, sir, were being discourteous. Even if I was completely clueless on the subject, your approach should have been to inform. Rather you belittle. I don’t mind at all having my misconceptions corrected, I do mind being insulted.

Go to the range and try it yourself. Somebody over on DU in a similar thread was proposing this same thing. At all of the indoor ranges I've been to, you'd be thrown out if you tried this. Fair warning.

Fair warning. Indeed. I would be promptly asked to leave in a curt manner if I tried this at any indoor range in my area.
