Piracy: The Obama administration is making a strong but cool-headed military response to the gang of Somali pirates now holding a U.S. captain hostage at sea. So far in this critical first test, the right message is being sent.
Imagine what it's like to be a Somali pirate. In the past two years, the "business" of ship-hijacking has been good. Pirates steal ships, and shipping companies pay to save crews. In a failed state, there are no prospects of arrest, no court dates, no prison time. Military convoys are easily avoided, leaving ships vulnerable. And the ransoms flow in some $150 million from 150 ships in 2008.
What pirate wouldn't think of branching into a new line of business, like a U.S. ship?

Well, now that the lib-tard, anti-military, anti-American, radival, pro-Islamic-terrorist "whordes" are the ones RUNNING this once great nation, I guess they WOULD "think about branching into a new line of business" at that, wouldn't they?
Perhaps because they KNOW they have nothing to fear from "us".
Maybe they have even already been TOLD they have nothing to fear?
we are about to find out how the world will treat us because of our new soft military stand. I don’t want to be the military not able to defend themselves against opposing attack while zero is in office.
Yo ho ho and an IBD writer high on crack.
The captain managed to jump out of the boat and what happens? Nobody shoots at the boat or goes to help the captain, and the pirates grab him again.
None of our “great leaders” has done much, this will turn into a farce, a billion dollar hostage negotiation with illiterate thugs whose cohorts on land will get a gig with some media outlet negotiating like Lindsey Lohan drama queens. Try and save life, yes, set up a cordon sanataire around this area and kill pirates step two.
IBD usually trashes Obama..... I won’t be pass judgement until this is ended hopefully with the Captain safe.
This whole episode is shameful.
Don’t hold it in.
That’s a good way to end up having your head explode. And that’ll make a mess of your computer desk.
I HOPE so.
‘Cause otherwise this guy might find it hard to talk since it appears he’s got Obama’s —— so far into his mouth.
I can't quite get IBD.
Every now and then they print something that makes sense.
Then they print crap like this and blow their credibility.
Obummer the Marxist is doing everything wrong.
He should pay ransom on every single captive, meanwhile blockading all ports so nothing gets in or out except the captives.
He should then totally destroy everything in those ports, the ports and a 5 mile zone around every port. Level to the ground.
Make those ports so they can never ever be used again for anything, not even a canoe. Mine them until there is more steel and powder than water.
Kill anyone that interferes.
But Obummer, the Marxist will probably get the UN to write them a nasty letter.
That’s a whole nother story. The ships are forced to go unarmed because of stupid sea treaties. Maybe Kerry’s focus group on piracy can get that addressed in the indefinite future. So they have to fight like McGyver.
it is.
PS - RE: Your screen name and About Page.
Do you live in Sweden?
Do you drive a Scania truck?
Enought of the damned hippie college multi-culti hate whitey wring your hands crap, KILL PIRATES NOW.
That would be a little harsh, don't you think?
The Obama Solution: Show up with shiny big boats, tell the pirates how much we respect them and their religion, apologize for invading their waters and for all past American and Euporean colonial sins, give them them a pile of money, then hold a press conference and brag about our "new tone" in international politics.
My thoughts exactly. The stories I've read state clearly that Navy personnel WATCHED the captain jump and swim.
At that very moment, that lifeboat should have been made to resemble Swiss Cheese...compliments of the 50 cal and 30mm ordnance that MUST have beed trained on the boat.
Why did they hesitate? Why did they not fire? The obvious answer is that our Commander-in-Chief has standing orders that no pirates are to be harmed or killed. Otherwise they'd be fish food now and 90% of Americans would be, at the very least, giving him a polite golf-clap.
We gotta save that captain.
“We are very angry with you! And soon we will be writing you a sternly-worded letter TELLING you how angry we are at you!”
“Oh Nooooooooooooo! Not a sternly-worded letter. Anything but that!”
;^)
If we can do it while 100% protecting and maintaining American sovereignty then yes, we need to save that captain.
It’s a dangerous situation out there. But I think the US is capable of surprises.
