Easter Egg Hunt Ends In Disaster

AN EASTER EGG hunt ended in disaster when a teenage girl tripped an illegal hunting trap baited with birds' eggs.

Carina Faerber, 13, mistook the bait for chocolate eggs, setting off the hair trigger of a vicious razor-sharp gin-trap that left her hand hanging by a thread.

Her wrist was broken and almost severed altogether when she tried to pick up the eggs - used to lure weasels in woods near her house in Weisskirchen, Austria.

Her screams alerted local walkers who dialled emergency services, as reported by the Austrian Times.

Police say the eggs were left as bait by a huntsman trying to snare a weasel.

Although the traps are banned in Britain, they are legal in Austria - but only if there are clear warning signs placed beside them.

Prosecutors will interview the huntsman - who came forward to admit responsibility for the accident - over setting illegal snares.

Well, at least the culprit had the grit, heart, and decency to own up.

Hope the young lady’s hand can be saved!

Check out the pimp yellow copter at the link. No city/county/state/hospital/taxpayer-funded mooch factory should be without one!

Oh, dear God! I hope they can save her hand. What a nightmare.

Sigh. Sounds like a simple sign could have averted this disaster. I'm glad he came forward, at least.

A thirteen year old did not know enough to not put her hand in an obvious jaw trap? They need a dose of Road Runner and Bugs Bunny cartoons over there in Austria.

If someone sets a trap illegally, then they are not a “huntsman”, they are a poacher.

Just words ...

Easter egg hunt? It’s only Maundy Thursday — aren’t they rushing it a bit?

Strange story and my prayers for the girl, but if that’s the trap that did all the damage I’ve got a few questions.

What kind of egg’s are those in the pic?

Why would anybody put a cutting edge on a trap?

I used to do allot of trapping in my younger days, I’ve worked with Victor single and dual coil’s mostly from 1 1/2 to number 5’s which is capable of holding a Mountain Lion. None of those traps are capable of doing the damage she received. You could leave a cutting edge but why? You cut the leg off you lose the critter. Something don’t sound right especially when they’re trapping 1/2 lb Weasels.

I agree. From the looks of that trap - the guy was lookin’ to bag something a teeeeeeeenie bit bigger than a weasel.

Certainly prayers are offered for the poor child.

Oh dear heaven...I read that as her head was hanging by a thread. Glad to see it isn't quite as bad as I had thought! Prayers up.
