They would not object. The determination of the West would fade and they would be able to build mosques again in a few years. They have been doing this for 1400 years. What is a few more years to them?
The United States has long been allied with radical Wahhabist elements in the Middle East. It started before WWII, and became cemented during the Cold War. They, being religious, were natural allies with us against the Godless USSR and their Nationalist Arab allies.
Once the USSR fell, we should have rethought our relationships with them.
