We've had actors-turned-mayors, and actors-turned-governors. . . but actors-turned-White House staffers? That's a new one!
"House" star Kal Penn -- whose character was killed off on Monday's episode -- is taking a sabbatical from acting to work for President Obama. The 31-year-old actor, first launched to fame as a stoner student in the "Harold and Kumar" movies, is coming to Washington to be associate director in the White House Office of Public Liaison, Entertainment Weekly first reported yesterday.

The one movie about NJ was fairly funny but it was tinged with anti-white racism.
I was wondering why his character killed himself on House this week.
Yeah, you’d think he’d have done it after he got the White House job and found out what a screw-up BO is.

Yeah, his character wasn’t really important. Just a prop. It’s all about what it does to House, which should be interesting to watch.
In January 2007, Penn appeared in the first four episodes of the sixth season of 24 as Ahmed Amar, a teenage terrorist. Penn says he nearly turned down the role due to personal ethics, stating, “I have a huge political problem with the role. It was essentially accepting a form of racial profiling. I think it’s repulsive. But it was the first time I had a chance to blow stuff up and take a family hostage. As an actor, why shouldn’t I have that opportunity? Because I’m brown and I should be scared about the connection between media images and people’s thought processes?”
Penn was a surrogate for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 and a member of Obama’s National Arts Policy Committee. He appears in the Barack Obama video “Sí Se Puede Cambiar” by Andres Useche and appeared with comedian George Lopez on January 18, 2009 at “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial.”
Penn is a vegetarian, and ate soy patties instead of hamburgers during the filming of Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle.

...boy, they are really freaked out about Bobby Jindal. First they try to get Sanjay Gupta to be Surgeon General, now they get Kumar to be a public liason...it’s a naked attempt to get a high-profile Indian-American representing the Administration.
He’s now starring in Harold and Kumar Go To Washington.
