WASHINGTON -- Cyberspies have penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system, according to current and former national-security officials.
The spies came from China, Russia and other countries, these officials said, and were believed to be on a mission to navigate the U.S. electrical system and its controls. The intruders haven't sought to damage the power grid or other key infrastructure, but officials warned they could try during a crisis or war.

Looks like you beat an army of like minded posters on this one.
I just heard this on Greta VanSusteren.
I was just going to tell the Mods they could delete it as I so many posted. LOL
Let me guess. Chicoms
Kinda makes the idea of a smart grid a lot less wise.
The Chicoms and the Russian have hacked into Free Republic and are creating dozens and dozens of duplicate postings.
HELP!
I wonder how true this is. I can’t imagine such systems would be hooked up to the Internet for any reason. Of course, people who work for these companies could be in a position to breach security...
Chicoms and Russians.
It seems the more advanced we become the more vulnerable we are.
Oh, that big 1982 Siberian explosion?

From the article:
Last week, Senate Democrats introduced a proposal that would require all critical infrastructure companies to meet new cybersecurity standards and grant the president emergency powers over control of the grid systems and other infrastructure.
It is sheer criminal negligence to put critical systems like this on the internet. The results were predictable.
I say let the indictments fly.
The story is leaked now in order to give cover to the Cybersecurity legislation which puts the internet under White House control. I already heard an earlier story about the millions spent by the Pentagon fixing cyberspace break-ins.
Terrorism will be denied by this administration until they want to use it to justify treading on our liberty. [In usual form, this is the strategy that they blamed on Bush.]
Your guess is as good as mine but don’t they have controlled outages in California? If so, I would suspect that computers is how they control them.
Damn. Like we need enemies.
If one more Democrat whines about the abuses of power in the Bush administration I’m going to smack the snot of of them!!!!!!
Nope....grant the president emergency powers over control of the grid systems and other infrastructure.
Kenyans
We are architecting a whole new grid to be more secure and carry the juice required to manage an electric car environment. This is a very big project.
