ATLANTA -- A commander at Hill Air Force Base was killed Sunday in Atlanta on his way to the airport.
Col. Stephen Mittuch, commander of the 419th Maintenance Group, was in Atlanta for an Air Force Conference.
Col. Mittuch was traveling south on Interstate 75 toward Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in a taxi about 6 a.m. when a car going the wrong way hit Col. Mittuch's taxi.
The Georgia State Patrol believes alcohol was involved.
The cab driver and the driver of the other vehicle survived and were taken to the hospital. Both are in stable condition.
Col. Mittuch joined the Air Force in 1987 and assumed command of the 419th maintenance group at Hill Air Force Base in 2007.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 10 at Hill Air Force Base at 3 p.m.
The service is open to the public.
FYI Hill AFB is in northern Utah. The crash happened in Atlanta, GA. I am guessing he was TDY at the time.
I did not know him, but seeing that I am near Hill AFB I thought I would post it. Sad, I feel for his family.

419 MG is part of the 419th Fighter Wing, which is an Air Force Reserve unit, which flies the F-16.
