WASHINGTON (AP) Hispanics made up nearly half of the more than 1 million people who became U.S. citizens last year, according to a Hispanic advocacy group. The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials said the number of Latinos who became Americans in fiscal year 2008 more than doubled over the previous year, to 461,317. That's nearly half of the record 1,046,539 new citizens overall in 2008, a 58 percent increase from 2007.

>> Really? You mean like LaRaza or MEChA or LULAC or the Hispanic Caucus? You mean irrelevant like that?
Their race may be relevant to those organizations. Not to me.
People willing to put in the time and work required to become citizens of this country according to the rules are welcome here. They earned it.
We must win their votes, not deride their accomplishments.

The state of California alone spends $14 billion per year on services to illegal Mexicans. You really wanna start doing a side-by-side here?
You have to remember that these people are U.S. citizens, just like you or me.
However, you could attempt to pass a constitution amendment that states that only people of a certain race or ethnicity can be citizens.

That’s a special case, for a variety of reasons.
Sure, Brazil has financed U.S. government debt to the tune of 134 Billion.
“You have to remember that these people are U.S. citizens, just like you and me.”
First of all, most of them aren’t U.S. citizens. The actual volume of illegal mexicans within our borders is staggering, and their abuse of the anchor-baby bs is a joke. Secondly, they are not like you and me (or maybe not like me) when they come in illegally, line up at corrupt welfare offices run by other mexicans, take welfare money while working for under the table dollars, thus expanding the level of their theft. Sorry, they aren’t like you and me, and they aren’t like any other immigrant group in American history.
Exactly! But don't waste your time trying to convince the slackjawed nuckledragging Rushbots around here of that fact...they are determined to take the GOP the way of the Whigs. Meanwhile, there are ample reasons to believe that the 50,000 new Americans want to be hard-working, patriotic and will seek conservatism over cradle-to-grave socialism if we'd just forget about race, religion, and previous national origins.
Yes, but the article in question is talking about American citizens, not illegal aliens.
And the anchor baby thing is here to stay since we are not going to repeal the 14th Amendment
Hey numb nuts, you reference ‘financing U.S. debt’ as though that represents our country receiving help from others. A country buys U.S. Treasuries as an investment, they get a return, and the investment was seen as safe, relative to the other places they could have invested the money. Take your uninformed leftist propaganda back to DU, where you came from. You’re fooling nobody here.
By purchasing bonds they are buying U.S. debt an will in the end see a return on their investment.
And by the way, the refusal to buy U.S. debt is used as a leverage against the U.S. to discourage the U.S. from closing its borders.
And to point out a very politically incorrect observation, there is a reason why forms asking for race say, "White (Not Hispanic)" and don't divide Hispanics by race. Many Hispanics consider themselves "white". And that some white people dont is, in many ways, comparable to the white people who didn't originally see Southern Europeans and Eastern Europeans as white and also considered the Catholic Irish a distinct group.
“And by the way, the refusal to buy U.S. debt is used as a leverage against the U.S. from closing it’s borders.”
One of the most shallow and unsupportable points made on this site in weeks. By the way, you ran that ‘big’ Mexican debt number out there, but you didn’t respond to the $14 billion per year that a single state spends on freeloading, illegal mexicans each year. The net negative to America each year caused by mexico is a staggering figure, and a figure that only grows larger into the future as the impact and influence of this below-average demographic increases.
Only half? I would think it was more like 90%.

Now, as for which part you were disbelieving...
Was it the 40% figure, or that fatherless kids are future criminals?
That depends entirely on who is doing the counting.
The latter, of course.
