Because when anyone makes a choice to NOT do evil, the consciences of those doing evil are tweaked. Can't have that. Must have guilt-free abortions.

PzLdr, Hunter, MMichaels, I think you guys are exactly right. Obama is not stupid enough to put this to a revealing, up-or-down vote on FOCA or anything like it. And he is SURE not stupid enough to put a bunch of bishops in jail.

No, he will gain everything he wants here incrementally, no legislative action whatsoever (or only stealth moves: expect to see some weird stuff added to Military Appropriation bills) --- but with major reliance on litigation and courts, both on the state and federal level.

That's the point of rescinding the HHS conscience regulations: so that shills, fully set up by abortazoid activist groups, can sue the hell out of prolife healthcare providers, both individual and institutional.

Pregnant woman demands abortion from prolife ob-gyn. Doctor inform her he doesn't do abortions. Lawsuit.

Pregnant woman demands abortion at Cath hospital. Cath hospital won't cooperate: Lawsuit.

Post-alleged-rape, the perfect case: she goes to the Cath hospital ER and asks for post-rape drug. It is the ER's policy not admiister a drug that can cause early abortions. Lawsuit.

Right now in Tennessee, the legislature is looking at HB 1532, which would force ALL hospitals to give RU486 and the morning after pill, the abortifacient drugs that kills babies and, on occasion, the mother. (But nobody talks about that.)

Govt. finds that Cath hospitals are "not adequately serving women's healthcare needs"; "restricting access to necessary medical procedures"; "discriminating" against abortion-seeking women.

Result: doctors start having their licenses suspended; some hospitals lose their certification; doctors start opting out of specialties like ob-gyn; Cath hospitals decide to close their Obstetrics units; cash-strapped, "failing" hospitals taken over by local government units (KELO) ---

Why would Obama do something dramatic like put FOCA to a vote or arrest a bunch of conscientious objectors --- which would electrify the opposition?

He can get everything he wants via complaint judges and stealth.
