Every 5th Grader knows from science class that fire needs 3 things: heat, oxygen and fuel. Remove any of the three and the fire goes out.

While in Turkey, Obama offered up with every bit of seriousness at his command, a Turkish proverb, "You cannot put out fire with flames."

Sorry Obama, but here in America we do put out fires with flame. Big fires. Forest fires.

You get up wind of the forest fire and set a "backfire" which travels away from you towards the forest fire. When the two meet, they will have consumed all the available fuel and you HAVE put out a fire with flames.

You have no idea what your talking about. Backfires are usually used in places where firebreaks are impossible to achieve. The result of a properly timed backfire is a well burned firebreak where one could never have been cut.
