Even if police officers had immediately entered the immigrant center where a gunman had just shot down 13 people, the victims' injuries were so severe that none would have survived, a county prosecutor said Sunday.
But police didn't enter the American Civic Association until nearly 45 minutes after the first 911 calls came in at 10:30 a.m. Friday. They began removing the wounded about 15 minutes after that.
It took more than two hours to clear the building. Survivors reported huddling for hours in a basement, not knowing whether they were still in danger after the gunman, 41-year-old Jiverly Wong, killed 13 people.
Medical examiners who conducted autopsies reported that the victims' injuries were so severe they would not have survived, Broome County District Attorney Gerald F. Mollen said....
When police arrived at the scene, the gunfire had stopped, so they believed there was no "active gunman" in the center and decided to wait for the SWAT team to arrive, Zikuski said.
The SWAT team entered the building until 11:13 a.m., 43 minutes after the first call to police....

I did not notice any posts suggesting that anyone RUSH into gun fire.
But, we are told every day, by our governments and by many police chiefs, that it is the job of the police, not us, to protect us in this type of situation. Now, I don’t for one minute believe this lie myself, but it is THEY who are saying it.
So, if they do indeed see protecting us from evil as THEIR job, then it would follow that it is their job to enter such situations as this one, albeit with all due caution, and to NOT hide outside behind police cars.
To do otherwise would be hypocritical. It would endanger the public. And we ALL know that no politician, government official or police chief would knowingly endanger the public simply to promote his own leftist,anti-gun, anti-indvidual-liberty agenda, right? ;^)
They weren’t hours away.
It took them 2 minutes to respond.
They certainly couldn’t have stopped the number of people who were shot, but maybe they could have prevented the number of pints of blood that were lost during the long wait.

Mr Mollen. That is not the point.. You nor the Police knew this as everyone stood around debating what to do.Nor does that address the fact that you allowed dozens of people to suffer being trapped with a killer not knowing if they would live or die and the suffering and problems that this will cause all of them down the road. Nice try in ass covering but the people are no longer buying into this crap. You tax us to protect us and you fail to do so.
The police can't protect you from anything.
They can pick up the bodies and look for the guilty.
Sometimes they find them, sometimes not.
Protect yourself and your circle. - Nobody else will.
Police? give me a break. Be prepared
I know that most of the police were following orders. I was criticizing the Binghamton police/prosecutors as an institution, not as individuals.
That's a pretty broad brush you're painting with.
There are many of us on this forum that were trained and have/would run to the gunfire.
The government cannot keep us safe in situations such as these, period. We have to do it ourselves, and be allowed to do it ourselves.
While it is easier to get a carry permit in NY state than in CA, there are so many restrictions on how and where one can carry, it might as well be for not.
If the receptionist had a permit, she would have had to tell the gunman, ‘Wait here one second so I can go get my gun out of the trunk of my car to defend myself.’
On the other hand, I’ve been in the area. It’s a nice quiet place. Perhaps people didn’t feel the need to carry, and the police quite possibly weren’t prepared for such a thing to happen. It’s a tough call about what kinds of forces were primarily at work here.
They didn’t *rush* into gunfire.
There was no gunfire for quite a while, they were being updated by the wounded receptionist who eventually died, and they certainly didn’t *rush*.
I am not confident that there were no deaths that weren’t a result of injuries that remained untreated for so long. 45-90 minutes can be a matter of life and death.
VERY well said.
Guns laws will NOT keep the guns out of the hands of the criminals. The black market will always be there to supply what they want. Anyone determined enough to get a gun will get one, no matter what.
The other problem is, that in situations like that the guy could still have been going around killing people. Every minute that passes increases the possibility of loss of life.
Funny how the "golden hour" for treatment to take place that trauma doc's talk about all the time suddenly doesn't matter here.
Police and other LEOs do not prevent or stop crime. The are there to document and collect evidence. It is up to the citizens to protect themselves.
These cops were just doing their job of waiting for the dangerous stuff to be over so they could collect evidence.
As I wrote, cops follow orders and you do not know what they were thinking or what they were feeling about those orders.

No you weren't. You called the police cowards. Pathetic.
Hear, hear! "...all enemies foreign and domestic..." that none but a few still believe.
If my wife or children were in there, damn straight I would, armed or unarmed.
I grew up identifying with the police I watched on TV. I can now see that the Democrat/Union cops/prosecutors are largely corrupt and ineffective. Not all are corrupt as individuals, of course. The percentages vary.
I see that you ID yourself as a former cop. You corrupt cops in the Democrat/Union conspiracy are just as guilty as the other criminals, for you are the grand enablers of the less organized criminal. You corrupt cops give all cops a bad name, and are the reason why so few members of the public today will cooperate with law enforcement.
I pray that all of you caught up in crime and corruption may someday repent.
