Amid a thicket of confusion and conflicting information, a small militia group is trying to take root in Geauga County.

The Geauga County Home Guard says it is associated with the Ohio Defense Force and had planned to host training exercises for the force's units from around the state, beginning April 17. The Ohio Defense Force is a militia formed 10 years ago to help local authorities during emergencies, according to a spokesman. ".....

A spokesman said the Ohio Defense Force is "apolitical. We don't get involved in politics at all, or religion for that matter." He took issue with the Southern Poverty Law Center including the group on its watch list of militia and so-called patriot organizations.

Darn. They should be PROUD of it.

They should call themselves an Islamic community and they’d be left alone to practice all sorts of stuff.

And does anyone notice when a militia is structured and there to help out in emergency, they are domestic terrorists.

When Obama offers them a uniform, they are ‘serving their country’.

SPLC is a scary, big brother group that uses “hate”, as they define it, as a club. I see they list the JDL the Mormons and a few benign orgs as hate groups, but nothing except Voz de Aztlan and the Nation of Islam for “minority” hate groups.

Ain’t that rich.

Technically every person over the age of 17 that resides in Alaska is automatically included in the State Militia. And recent events have highlighted that if the National Guard was to be Federalized then all able men over 17 would be called upon as a state militia.

I am hoping Sarah Palin realizes what an asset this could be, she could utilize oil/gas revenue funds to establish training centers for many volunteers in all aspects of public service. This would NOT be something like Obamas Youth Brigade, more along the lines of required service that Israel has. Training to organize relief in the case of disasters or attacks upon our territory.
I see nothing wrong with this, its for the people, its not governed by Federal decisions, its not to create a police state.

He took issue with the Southern Poverty Law Center including the group on its watch list of militia and so-called patriot organizations.

The list of militia carries a disclaimer that a group's inclusion "does not imply that the groups themselves advocate or engage in violence or other criminal activities or are racist."

I wonder just what it is that makes a militia group a hate group.

Could it be that they advocate for the Civil Right to keep and bear arms?

Could it be that they advocate for other politically incorrect rights like the right to own property and the right to be secure in your home?

Could it also be that Patriot groups are also known for being advocates of strong boarders, the rule of law and originalist interpretation of the Constitution?

Could it be that Patriot groups are for State and personal sovereignty?

Could it be that Patriot Groups are in favor of al sorts of conservative values that a leftist group (of which the Southern Poverty Law Center most certainly is as opposed to the Civil Rights group it claims to be) can not tolerate.

Right next door to you in Lake County, wished I’d had moved to Geauga County twenty years ago...for that matter, five years ago before the bubble burst.

Sadly enough, I have invested way to much onto my current Lake County home to turn and run.
