Barack Obama, the World's Greatest Orator (all news organisations), didn't exactly cover himself in glory when the BBC's political editor Nick Robinson asked him a question about who was to blame for the financial crisis. Normally word perfect, Obama ummed, ahed and waffled for the best part of two and a half minutes. Here, John Crace decodes what he was really thinking ...

The Guardian has consistently been spot about Zero.
Here, Obama, I’ll give you the answer. Start with Carter and the Community Reinvestment Act. Fast forward to the early ‘90’s when YOU and others like you threatened banks and lending institutions with lawsuits if they didn’t relax their lending standards. Go forward a few years where the ‘toon announced the Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae would buy practically ANY loan, regardless of the person’s ability to pay it back. Now fast forward to 2004 where YOU and your RAT cohorts did everything in their power to cover up for the fact that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were getting into DEEP financial trouble yet paying out tens of millions in bonuses to Franklin Raines (you remember him? He was on your campaign staff!) and other RATS.
The Obama is no more articulate than the average person. I know scores of people who could answer questions given BHO during press conferences and other fora. He is a slightly above average user of the teleprompter - he speaks clearly but he has used text that is not his and is not relevant to the point intended. The best TP speakers would catch most such errors and quickly adjust. Among the best is Sarah Palin, who adjusted effectively during prompter failure this most recent election cycle. Sarah has convictions and real executive experience. Those attributes show in the speaker.
I am having a hard time trying to see any evidence that obama/soetoro is a great orator. All I see is a bumbling, inept idiot who hasn’t, in a coherent way, put two sentences together without a teleprompter. He hasn’t answered any questions, of real importance to our nation, without being told what to say.
I’m glad somebody at the BBC is not afraid to ask a “hard” question of ‘the one’. Apparently obama’s handlers couldn’t screen the people asking the questions there!
