RICHMOND, April 4 -- Virginia Republicans ousted their embattled chairman Jeffrey M. Frederick Saturday at a tense meeting that left the party bitterly divided as its leaders try to staunch years of election losses and head into the state's crucial November elections.

Frederick's dismissal came after he repeatedly refused to resign despite public requests from nearly every top-ranking Republican officeholder in Virginia. They accused him of incompetence and mismanagement.

“incompetence and mismanagement.”

After watching the last two election cycles, it’s the only seemingly important qualities and qualification to be a leader in “The Stupid Party” nationally or locally.

This also seriously needs to be repeated at the national level with Michael Steele!

Sadly I’m forced to agree.

Ron Reagan must be rolling over in his grave, God rest his soul.

I don’t see why any GOP leader in a state that was lost in 2006 would have the audacity to remain on staff. I am glad to see him go.

FWIW, Frederick was not the Chair in 2006. He was elected as chair at the 2008 convention.

It's not completely fair to saddle him with the 2008 losses in Virginia. But there were some other pretty serious charges against him.

Virgina RINO's just dumped the conservative:

In 2008, the state convention elected Frederick party chair. In October 2008, Frederick received media attention for comparing Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama to Osama bin Laden because of his association with Bill Ayers. Frederick claimed that each had friends who bombed buildings in the United States. A McCain spokeswoman complained Frederick's remarks were "not appropriate."

With a vote of 57-18, it's hard to blame this on just the RINOs. A lot of conservatives wanted Frederick out as well.

His ideas are right, but he’s not a gifted leader, unfortunately.

I fear that the NoVA RINOs are consolidating their power,

You mean, he’s not Obama?

I can remember when character counted.

Who is the next one going to be? Will we vote at the convention in May?

The GOP is more concerned with avoiding “controversy”, than ousting democrats.

Ugh.

This was not orchestrated out of NOVA.

Mike Thomas will serve as interim chair. A post he has held three times since 2003 - sort of telling all by itself.

The next chair will be elected at the convention. What remains to be seen is whether Frederick will run again.

I like the Hager family but I did vote for Frederick at the last convention. You know, change and all that kind of stuff. Doesn’t usually the top candidate’s (McDonnell) choice win? Wonder who he wants.
