Three teenagers have pleaded guilty in the beating death of Seattle's "Tuba Man," but none will spend more than 72 weeks in juvenile detention for their crimes.
...
Ed McMichael, 53, a quirky character known for playing everything from Black Sabbath to Bread on his tuba while outside Seattle sporting events, was pummeled by a group of teens after midnight on Oct. 25 last year.
...
The Garfield student admitted, Satterberg said, to delivering one unprovoked punch to McMichael's head, knocking down the Tuba Man. Others in the mob kicked McMichael as he lay in the fetal position and rifled through his pockets, according to police reports.
Satterberg said he believes the Garfield teen "thought he ought to do something to show off" because he was not directly involved in robbing the two North Seattle teens.
The Garfield teen is an honors student with a stable home life, according to James Kelly, president of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle. The boy is a member of the league's Urban Scholars program at Garfield.
The mob ran when police arrived. Officers were able to arrest two suspects, the Cleveland students, at the scene. They later arrested the Garfield student.
The three were released from King County Juvenile Detention Center in February under the conditions they wear electronic-monitoring devices.
All three are now in custody awaiting sentencing.
Satterberg said there was no solid evidence of gang affiliation involved in the crime. But he believes that after midnight, teens "tend to be emboldened when in groups."

Homicide detectives are appealing for public assistance. Unfortunately, the only description that we have is that the suspects were black males in their mid-teens.

But they wus good boys, trying to better theyselves...yada yada yada. Im sick of this crapola.
little TCBE savages belong in a zoo or dead.
You can't tell me there's not enough evidence, particularly considering they had just robbed two guys earlier who i.d.'d them, plus the cops who arrested them, AND the past history of this roving gang stuff to get an ADULT conviction. Believe me, with felony manslaughter in an adult trial hanging over their heads, one of those little animals would have squealed like a pig and ratted on the others to get a plea bargain done. I personally believe our illustrious DA just didn't want to do the necessary homework (or take the brunt of having to deal with a minority community who would be "outraged" by their precious children being convicted as adults), the detectives on the case didn't want to do the hard work necessary to gather more evidence and it was just a whole lot easier for them all to take this pathetic cop-out.
Nothing will happen to these subhumans. Just like when the police stood there and watched a mob kill a man who was trying to protect a woman who was being brutalized by a group of blacks at the Mardi Gras riots. In fact I think the police chief responsible for ordering the cops to do nothing is now Bambi’s drug czar. FUBO.
Yeah, thugs from Chicago (and a few other places) are ruining Cedar Rapids and making even Iowa City unsafe (compared to what it used to be.) They come to Iowa because the waiting list for Section 8 is shorter here. Greaaat!
Of course, people are dumb enough to think that the ‘environment’ is the problem but whether they are the majority (chicago) or the minority, they do the same things. It’s tiring and it’s embarrassing if you’re a black person who’s actually doing something with your life while thugs rob and intimidate the entire community.
These scumbags in this case already robbed people just before causing the injuries that killed this guy. May I point out that the Seattle area is a beautiful Pac NW area with all kinds of activities and things to do. There isn’t any reason for this kind of behavior.
And the one kid is an honors student. Maybe racial solidarity is more important when you’re around a group of thugs than being on an upwardly mobile path.
So what he's saying is - the perp can't blame his actions on a broken home of a failed educational system?
Well, that works for me - let's go warm up Ol' Sparky.
Seattle, a beautiful shithole run by an asshole, led by Democrat Party assholes, aided by a drug-addled student and homeless population, etc.
This man did not deserve to die. The guilty must pay more than 72 weeks.
Those who beat to death the Oom-Pah-Pah man deserve more than 3/4 time.
So? Nobody who was an honors student has ever committed an terrible crime? His education, stable home life etc. doesn't seem to be doing him much good. I see no reason to mitigate the sentence. The prosecutor sounds like a class A wimp.

Rest in Peace, sir.
Low Blow?
I see what you did there.
SEATTLE! need we say more. The cancerous rats at thier best.
You can add Dubuque to the list of cities defining deviancy down via "social justice" pols and activists. When it comes to the importation of malignant culture (thugs from Chicago/Rockford/Milwaukee, burglars from Mexico or militant homosexuals from the coasts) Iowa from Des Moines eastward has reached metastasis.

Based on info in threads like these, plus their voting habits in primaries, I’ve concluded Iowa is a liberal hellhole.
When a population is conditioned to grant any and every wish of the government school establishment (after all, "it's for the children," and "children are our future"), the road to Hell is fast and smooth. Iowa has arrived.

It’s sad. I taught a summer class in Garfield over half a decade ago. If memory serves correct, such greats as Hendrix and Bruce Lee went there. It is a school in a pocket of poverty near the capitol hill area, and one of the places I wouldn’t want to be alone at night. Seattle has gotten worst and worst in the past decade. From what I can tell, things that get outta hand like that is usually gang related. About 20 years ago, from what the locals tell me, Seattle had an anti “Gang Unit” division of their Police Department... and it worked, put a bunch of guys behind bars... It worked so well though, that there were no more gangs to combat, so they disbanded the “Gang Unit”...
Here we are 20 years later, and those guys that were put away, are now coming back out... and they’re starting to recruit. And the gangs are getting bolder. I also hear that the local Police have put together a new Gang Unit to combat the rise in gang violence and stupidity.
On a side note, two summers ago, I worked down on the water front in Seattle, and used to walk it up and down to the ferry every now and then... and one day, in mid summer, in broad daylight at the height of tourist season... I was waiting at a bus stop right across from Ivar’s near under the Viaduct, and this punk black kid, couldn’t be no older than 16, rides up in a bicycle with lit cigarette hanging out of his mouth, and he confronted me saying, “where you from?”
So I responded as I normally do, “Originally, I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.”
And he’s like, “Where’s that?”
And I’m like, “Do you know where the Gulf of Mexico is?”
And he just shakes his head.
Then I’m like, “Do you know where the Mississippi River is?”
And he shakes his head no again.
Then I’m like, “Do you know where the middle of the country is?”
He then looks at me and then asks, “Are you Blood?”
My mind had to process what he meant, which took me about half a second to realize what was going down.
That morning, before I headed out to the office, the plan was that day, me and some coworkers were headed down to an industry convention down at Benaroya Hall. And I felt like going the extra mile and actually trying to match. The only clean shirt I had was a red one, and to match, I tied up my hair in a red bandanna.
Not only did it take a split second to make the connection with what was going on, but I was also caught off guard that this was happening in broad daylight.
So I simply respond, “No, No I’m not.”
Then he goes into a spiel about who he is and saying that he was a “Crip.”
I think to myself, “wow? Really?” (Half from the situation I was in, and half from his lack of knowledge of basic geography.)
So I just tell him, “Look man, I ain’t got nothing against you.”
And he looks me over, then seems to agree with me, then holds his hand out in a fist, so I just do the same and pound fists with him, he turns to ride off, and looking over his shoulder he says something like, “And don’t you forget it.”
My coworker was with me at the bus stop and just stayed quiet the whole time. I could tell he was expecting me to say something snarky to the punk kid, and waiting for me to misstep with my mouth and possibly get a shiv in my throat. But I played it down and gullible like back in my teaching days.
Eventually the bus came around, and back to the office we went.
I’d always see the gangs loitering at the parks at night when ya walk by, and they all stop what they’re doing and just watch ya as ya pass. Just making sure you don’t stop or try anything. Maybe checking to see if an easy mark opportunity arises. Same with the dealers and hookers from the water to Aurora. Never thought something like this would happen in broad daylight though. Caught me off guard a bit.
I should have known better though, just a few years before that, me and a friend had our mini van stolen (auto theft being the most popular crime in Seattle due to the lack of any real punishments for the crime) in broad daylight just a few blocks from the EMP and Monorail station. In fact, I was able to find the stolen van before the cops showed up, filled with stolen goods... but that’s an entirely different story for another time.
Anyway... when I got back to the office, I filed a long ass email report to the local Seattle PD with every detail still fresh in my mind. And asking them about information on gangs in the Seattle area and the history and such...
In the end, they thanked me for the information, and said they were very aware of the growing gang problem. They also said as an American Citizen I could wear whatever I want, but be aware that some of these gangs fly their own colors and like to hate on those of a different color. From what I remember they declined to give me any information regarding locations and such with their gangs and where they’re looking to clean up, but said if I did a quick online search, I’d probably find what I was looking for...
And I did... right down to who claims what street corner... etc. There’s a whole other world int hat city that most people don’t see cause they commute, go to work, then jet out as soon as it’s quitting time.
God rest the Tuba Man. Lord knows he didn’t get what he deserved... and the punk kids probably saw him as an easy mark. Playing music on the street after a Mariners or Seahawks game (or back in the day the Sonics. heh.. back in the day. it was almost a year ago I went to their last home game. Ah well.) The music men could make some good dough from the exiting revelers... especially after a win! :)
If Seattle wants to stop the crime they need to have tougher laws, and encouraged parents to be more involved with their kids, and not just suck off the gov’t tit. The tougher laws serve us well two fold. (1) It deters some crime, and (2) for those who commit the crime and are caught. They’re sent away for a long time. I’m up for both. give ‘em a square meal, a place out of the rain, and away from us! Hell while we’re at it, we can put ‘em to work. Maybe make ‘em grow their own food, or become self sufficient while in prison so it eases the tax burdens on the innocent citizens. Hand ‘em a Bible, Teach ‘em about Jesus if they’re willing to listen. and pray they clean up their act and realize the wrong they do.
God Rest the Tuba Man. God protect us and our cities. Deter stupidity, and I pray for the kids and families that they Turn to God, and love each other, and take an interest in what’s right, instead of free handouts and free rides.
