hanting "Give us rain, give us thunder, we won't let the government plunder," a crowd of more than 300 sloshed through puddles to protest what they believe to be government tyranny by dumping two boxes stamped "tea" into Northport Harbor.
"I'm very unhappy with the administration, where they are bringing the country . . . we don't need bigger government," Theresa Baron, 41 of East Northport, said at the Freedom Friday Tea Party. "Let the free enterprise work. The government doesn't have to solve every problem."
The event's sponsoring group, Free America, models itself after the Heritage Foundation, which promotes conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense, tea party organizer John Stevens of Greenlawn said this past week.

Good for them. We have to take a stand.
I want to see someone carrying a “Honk if I’m paying for your bonus” placard.
Having been one of the original street activists on FR, I've come to learn that protests/demonstrations do NOTHING!
How's that working for you? Got results? No, you don't.
It is now about civil disobedience. The liberals have done it for years and have made progress. Now it's our turn. Got balls?
I understand your impatience. I for one was at Gathering of Eagles I in Washington along side many patriots, facing off against the Leftists and Anarchists.
These “tea parties” are the first time I’ve seen 9 to 5 taxpayers hit the streets to protest big government.
Okay, I'll bite, what are your ideas? I confess, we are all so well-behaved it loses its threat.
It seems like the destruction-of-property route never targets the culprits, only some innocent bystanders. Certainly burning your own neighborhood down in race-riots, vandalizing a community in celebration of a basketball victory, or smashing a bank branch-office window to protest government international monetary policy seems senseless.
So what, don't pay taxes? Strike? I liked someone's idea of burning money at the tea parties ... it got attention when protesters burned bras and flags ... but, then again, nobody really cares if the mules pulling the wagons are unhappy. I suppose the idea of clogging DC streets has merit. Maybe get convoys meeting up and circling the beltways of major cities at even 45 mph every day for a week (like long funeral processions for our country) would be technically legal but pretty good at making gridlock. (Actually, now that I ponder that one, I kind of like it. Traffic reporters would HAVE TO put it on the news. It would work even better if we could rent/borrow hearses to lead the convoys.)
But seriously, I think most people realize the tea parties are either just a warm up or we're all lost.
I have a better idea. Burn tax returns!
