Perchlorate is used thousands of times more in cleaning solvents, carburator cleaner and dry cleaning!

do you pour those down your babies throats 4 or 5 times a day?

I think you missed dalereed's point.

The article tried to tie this to rocket fuel, which is likely to be only a minor source of perchlorates in the environment. In other words, the author seems to have an agenda.

“Another hazard is the mixing of lactose, a sugar, with the powerful rocket fuel perchlorate, leading some to fear that baby formula may detonate near the child..” [I made that up]

LOL!

This work presents the results of a screening study to identify and quantify perchlorate in mineral deposits and in some garden and crop fertilizers that

Perchlorate Identification in Fertilizers

It's NOT "rocket fuel"; it's FERTILIZER!

The idea is to make the babies grow, not explode!

No but i’ve breathed plenty and eaten plenty in small amounts over the years.

I really liked trichlorethelene but they banned it.

I guess that would depend on your diet, especially if you drink a lot of mass-produced cow’s milk.

The most stable Pu isotope has a T1/2 of 80 million years, so I doubt you’ll find it in nature. It’s not on a daughter path in a decay chain so it’s not being produced by decay, like Po or Ra.

Were you thinking of polonium?

“Score one for breast feeding.”

There is a link above that goes to an article describing perchlorate being found in breast milk, I think in 100% of the samples.

According to US EPA, “Plutonium is considered a man-made element, although scientists have found trace amounts of naturally occurring plutonium produced under highly unusual geologic circumstances.”

So it’s present naturally in the environment, just not very much of it. I suspect you are correct to right than I was.

Perchlorates are not used in cleaning solvents, carburator cleaner and dry cleaning!

The chemical used in these ways most often, perchlorethylene, has a similar sounding name but is completely different chemically. It’s also present in the environment in much higher quantities than perchlorates.

I bet it’s the “natural chain reaction” area in what used to be called Gabon (Africa). That’s a very unusual area.
