BOSTON (Reuters) - The New York Times Co has threatened to shut The Boston Globe unless the newspaper's unions agree to $20 million in concessions, The Boston Globe reported, quoting union leaders.
The union officials said executives from the Times and the Globe made the demands on Thursday morning in a meeting with leaders of the newspaper's 13 unions, the Globe reported.

I’m hoping that the union “stands up to the suits” and refuses to give any concessions.

Does the New York Times now understand how destructive the socialist unions can be to businesses?

OoooH I have reached the HI-POINT of an otherwise rainy and dreary day. We should all be so lucky.
I write this as I admit that at one time I would NOT miss a single copy of the Globe, when it USED to be a proud American newspaper. How sad. I’m going to be glad.

Management told union leaders Thursday that the Globe will lose $85 million in 2009, unless serious cutbacks are made, according to a Globe employee briefed on the discussions. Last year the paper lost an estimated $50 million, the employee said.

Keep it open so they both fold. They lose money on every article printed and every newspaper sold, but they plan to make it up on bigger volume.

I thought that businesses existed to provide extremely high paying jobs to unions.
Well, that is what the NYT and the Boston Globe have always maintained on behalf of all other businesses.
Suddenly, I’m feeling pro-union. Hehe.
