Romney gives serious talk at GOP dinner
trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com ^ | 04-01-09 | Romney gives serious talk at GOP dinner

Posted on 04/02/2009 7:01:07 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney gave a pretty philosophical keynote at the GOP fundraiser tonight.

At times the 30-minute address sounded like a history lesson or a college lecture.

As the crowd welcomed him with a standing ovation, Romney warned that he'd be speaking seriously. This would be no pep rally full of political zingers.

"These are critical times," Romney said. "Defining times for the world and the nation."

Romney talked about what he saw as competing world philosophies, including that of jihadists, and critical times in history, like the Civil War and the American Revolution.

"Republicans are the revolutionaries of the day because we fervently, passionately, ardently believe that the individual accounts for the strength of America today," Romney said.

The former Massachusetts governor and businessman also explained how he sees the Democrats' view on power: that it lies in the hands of government and bureaucrats.

"We recognize it is the power of the individual that's made America what it is," Romney said.

He later continued, "I think the American people are seeing through what's happening. The Democrats are trying to use the crisis to further their philosphy of the supremacy of government ... The American people are not as thick as some would believe or have us believe."

We will never know.

Mitt had the GOP/RNC elitists already. He has them now. He and they couldn’t get him the nomination. Blabbing about capital gains reduction vis a vis, say, Netherlands isn’t going to win you one state.

Mitt doesn’t and never will have the popular feel, communication, trust, instinct, so he can not get votes.

Besides, his economic ideas are GOP boilerplate, dull, known to death. That is a very weak hook.

Good. I take the harelipped dwarf that is a Conservative, rather than the tall good looking opportunist carpet bagging flip flopper.

Why thank you very much!

With that, I’m off to bed. I have a terrible case of bronchitis and should not even be up.

As is your right. I don’t feel like arguing about Romney, quite frankly.

Good evening!

Bunch of Country Clubbers having a really good feast, patting each other on the back, and welcoming the Country Clubber in Chief.

No thanks.

These are the same jerks who let themselves be tricked into dissing Sarah Palin over this dinner in a recent interview. They haven’t learned a damned thing, apparently.

When did Arnold Schwarzenegger, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Arlen Spector or Christy Todd Whitman EVER run on a Reagan pro-life platform?

Which one of them EVER won the straw poll at CPAC?

How many of them were conservative on 24 of 26 issues and when did they EVER implement legislation that was pro-life?

Mitt Romney is the man who should be in the whitehouse NOW instead of Socialist Obama! His forte is bringing businesses out of the red and into the black. He could have and can do the same for our government!

I disagree. We have fluff now with a POTUS and administration who doesn’t really understand or particularly care about basic economic principles. It may be boring, but competence, not personality, gets the job done. It’s a shame the electorate is swayed by nonsense.

No, I’m pretty sure no one forgets that since everyone who backs a RINO repeatedly reminds us. And as we repeatedly tell all of you, we’re not looking for someone who’s perfect. We’re just looking for one actual conservative with guts who means what they say and will do as they preach to the best of their ability. Shouldn’t be that difficult to find one, but when we do find a few they get torn to shreds by the RINO/Establishment wing of the GOP that wants to crush conservatism. Then afterwards they go out and claim conservatism is dead conveniently ignoring they were the ones that killed or wounded its latest representative and their enlightened path has lead to even more losses in elections.

Romney belongs to that wing by default. He’s sympathetic to their principles but he’s also utterly without center and will shift on a dime if he thought it would elect him President.

"The romneybots are stuck in a rut, they're terrified of real Conservatives. They think it takes a flaming liberal to win an election."

Harry, your assessment on this one is incorrect. You've got to do more reading about Mitt Romney with an open-mind and away from his lying, hyperbolic detrators or the "crazy Romney froofers" as Ann Coulter calls them, as I did. You'll get a far more honest picture.

I listened to most every Bush/Hastert/Lott Republican, including Mitt, blab about lower taxes, smaller government...bla,bla,bla. They did worse then nothing. They grew it, faster than LBJ.

How do you know a Republican is lying? He is moving his lips.

Good post...agree completely.

There are way too many that want it their way 100% or nothing. Thanks to them what we now have is worse than nothing.

I’d love to give Romney a serious talk about times being too serious to vote for a RINO.

It doesn’t matter. Nixon had more popular appeal than does Mitt. People don’t get him. He couldn’t buy his way in a weak field.

He’s done. Toast. Another old white guy in a suit. A stiff Republican.

Yeah, that will get American enthused. Not.

Romney and Palin would put an end to Obama. Sure Romney has made mistakes but considering the fight he has ahead of him he should learn from the past. If he and Palin can energize the base and fight for conservatism, they would be an awesome duo.
