A group representing Catholic hospitals and health care facilities in California, noting that “pressure has been especially acute” in the state to force Catholic institutions to violate their moral values, has called on the Obama Administration to give up its attempt to repeal federal “conscience clause protection for hospitals and health care workers.”
"The conscience protections contained in federal law are a civil right for all hospitals and health care workers," said William J. Cox, president of the Sacramento-based Alliance of Catholic Health Care in a statement issued yesterday. “The regulation that the Administration seeks to repeal is necessary for preserving those rights and making sure that health care workers can perform their duties without fear or intimidation."
The Obama Administration announced earlier this year that it is considering the elimination of a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regulation guaranteeing conscience protections for health care workers and institutions that was adopted in the waning days of the Bush presidency. The federal government began accepting comments on the proposal on March 10, and individuals and organizations who want to express opinions regarding the policy have until the close of business on April 9, when the comment period ends.

What percent of Catholics voted for Obama?
Just shut them down if they force the issue.
Catholic hospitals, as a rule, are cleaner and friendlier than secular hosplitals. And they have chapels and nice ladies who pray with patients and families.
But Catholics voted 60% or so FOR Obama. Tsk tsk. That these baby killers got even ONE RC vote is a cryin’ shame. Okay, American Catholics, you voted for an evil man because you wanted to be seen as progressive and kind... instead you’ll get partial birth abortions and the forced closing of Catholic hospitals. Bargaining with devils indeed.
Now class, have we learned anything?
I would never vote for anyone who advocated for abortion to remain legal, and no Christian should.
But here is a question that almost never gets asked: since so many vote Democratic based on economic issues, shouldn't the Republican Party disavow 'trickle down economics' and embrace a better economic approach to draw those voters?
If they did, the Right to Life would advance very rapidly.
Surely that should be done.
At present, abortion is a "choice". However, the "pro-choice" folk aren't content with that for it allows for the possibility of dissent and claims of conscience. There can be no escape route for those who object to abortion. Dissent must be silenced. You will cooperate with the killing.
Punitive actions will then be imposed, with increasing severity, on those who obstinately deny "the people" their "human rights".
I read a further breakdown. The majority of the “Catholics” who voted for Obama were Hispanics, who comprise an increasing part of the Catholic electorate now. Of course, they’re a main target of the Democrat party (not to mention Planned Parenthood and the big foundations) and are a solidly Dem constituency.
In addition, many of the Anglo clergy who work in Hispanic parishes are very left-wing, so I think this also contributes to the problem. For them, Dem = “social justice,” and this trumps everything.
The percentage of non-Hispanic Catholics who voted for Obama was actually around 35%, which is still way too high. The percentage of black Catholics who voted for him was around 80%, IIRC, which is still shameful, but not as high as the overall percentage of black voters.
So I think we have to work on getting Hispanic Catholics to know their faith better, and make it clear to non-Hispanic Catholics that there are just certain things a good Catholic cannot do.
Funny you should say that. My sister teaches religion in a Catholic HS. (yes, there are still some of them around). However, each year she fights the battle of explaining to her students why abortion is wrong. She teaches 9th grade and these kids have no clue about where the Catholic Church stands on the issue. All they know is the things they hear continually about "a woman has the right to decide, it is her body." That is the basis on which these kids have come to believe that it is okay. The parents have paid little attention to their spiritual needs or knowledge. Many don't even see to it that their children go to Mass. They send them to the Catholic schools mainly because they believe they are safer and will get a better education. It has nothing to do with furthering their foundation in Catholicism.
So, no wonder there are now many voting Catholic adults who did not object to Obama and his stand on abortion. They never had any forceful input about the fact that abortion is murder, particularly if they attended public schools. My sister anguishes over this each year as she faces a new class. Usually she is able to convince a few, but then...after they leave her class...there are years ahead where the liberal attitudes overtake what she worked so hard to make them realize. It seems to be a losing battle. So very sad.
