A Roseville couple who refused to sign their marriage license because new forms didn't use the terms bride and groom have settled their lawsuit with the state, their attorney said.
The couple sued claiming their rights had been violated. Now, the attorney for Rachel and Gideon Codding says the state has agreed to accept the couple's marriage license and agreed to pay for attorney's fees.
Attorney Steven Wood on Wednesday called it a clear victory for the Coddings and common sense.
"The state's previous rejection of the marriage license caused the Coddings considerable anguish, as well as financial harm," said Wood. "That has now been remedied."
The Pacific Justice Institute last year announced it would sue in Placer Superior Court on on behalf of the Coddings. The couple claimed the state of California did not have the right to replace the terms "bride" and "groom" with "Party A" and "Party B" on state marriage documents.

I don’t think Placer is the most conservative county. I think Modoc is probably the most conservative.
Fresno used to be, but it went for 0 in a big way. It couldn’t be those undocumented voters, could it? Naahhh...
It’s still pretty conservative, though. Zer0 lost there by about 15 points. It’s just that he lost in Modoc by about 40. :-)
Actually, B. Hussein only won Fresno county by a couple of points. Not bad, considering all those undocumented voters.
