Democrats reject Palin pick for Senate seat

GRUSSENDORF: Party plans to give slate of 3 new names to governor.

JUNEAU -- The Alaska Senate Democrats on Wednesday rejected Gov. Sarah Palin's appointment of legislative aide Tim Grussendorf to the state Senate.

The decision came during a two-hour closed-door meeting in the office of Senate Majority Leader Johnny Ellis, an Anchorage Democrat. Around 50 people -- legislators, lobbyists, and news media -- jammed into the Capitol hallway outside Ellis' office when word came out that a decision had been made.

The Democrats were tense and tight-lipped as they left the office, referring all questions to Ellis -- who refused to say which senators opposed Grussendorf's appointment, how many, or what happened in the meeting that decided his fate. "At the end of the day, after a very sober discussion and consideration there was not enough support to seat Mr. Grussendorf," Ellis said.

"There were lots of pros and cons, it was an executive session to discuss a personnel issue, so it would be improper for me to go into the details of that," Ellis said.

Ellis said there were concerns about Grussendorf's party affiliation. Grussendorf was a registered Republican until just weeks ago. He changed his registration to Democrat to qualify for appointment to the seat that opened when Juneau Democrat Kim Elton resigned for a job in the Obama administration.

“...dem punks...”

Not just punks; scu&bags of the lowest order. treacherous, hateful, totalitarian thugs. adolescent psychotics who need diagnosis rather than positions in government. (Question: If liberals are so brilliant and compassionate, why aren’t they inventing new sources of energy, new miracle drugs, new technology that liberates mankind from sickness and disability?)

IMHO

Alaska law is quirky, and I think there is a statute on the books which requires the governor to select someone from the same party as the person who vacated the seat.

Alaska law is quirky...

Is there anything about that state that isn't quirky?

A lot of the quirkiness comes from the fact that Alaska became a state in the 1950s, and its laws are based upon the culture and politics of that time period, rather than those of the 19th century or earlier, which is the case for most other states.

Since this was an appointment and not an election, the State Governor had a legitimate input into the choice. The normal custom was for the democrats of the disttrict to profer a choice of three names to the Governor. Instead they tried to box her in by offering only one name. She called their bluff. They now have to sit down with her and discuss three possible names. Among other things the Governor was protection the dignity of her office. Among the many tactics used by Palin’s enemies is “dignity stripping”. Obviously The Governor does not suffer these fools gladly.

Palin had asked them for additional names right from the start, the dems refused, so she opened it up to any democrat who wanted to be appointed. Now, the dems are being forced to do what they should have done in the first place.

Just find an old retired military officer who is a Democrat Sarah. I’m sure the NRA and Prolife folks can compare notes and find a Reagan-Democrat for you!

*Governor Palin was calling them out by picking Grussendorf.
Now they are squiriming and bring forward three other choices.*

Gov Palin plays chess.
She sees the big picture and knows how to
move and corner.
