Governor Comments on Dismissal of Charges Against Stevens
April 1, 2009, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today released the following statement in response to the dismissal of the indictment against former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens: Senator Stevens deserves to be very happy today. What a horrible thing he has endured. The blatant attempts by adversaries to destroy ones reputation, career and finances are an abuse of our well-guarded process and violate our God-given rights afforded in the Constitution. It is a frightening thing to contemplate what we may be witnessing here the undermining of the political process through unscrupulous ploys and professional misconduct. Senator Stevens and I had lunch together recently at my home and he reiterated the faith he held for vindication; he never gave up hope. It is unfortunate that, as a result of the questionable proceedings which led to Senator Stevens conviction days before the election, Alaskans lost an esteemed statesman on Capitol Hill. His presence is missed.
You got that right except I'd include most republicans in that statement.
I like what I hear from Governor Palin. She's got my support in 2012 unless someone can outshine her. Haven't seen anyone yet even come close.
If someone thinks that a person found “guilty” in a show trial is actually guilty, then we might as well as incorporate all the other features of the Soviet Constitution.
How many election cycles in a row has this happened now?
Exactly! And hey, look how well that worked out for the Soviets...
Odd, I thought it would end incessant haranguing about spelling Sara as Sara. Some folks took umbrage at the lost H so - here we are. Guess those old folks are right, ya just can’t please everyone.
BTW, she didn't throw Ted under the bus, she kicked the driver out and ran him over - again and again. I was - to say the least - most unhappy with this
But as she has to keep up her Populist rhetoric, I suppose she thought it was a no-brainer of a choice. Too bad she was wrong. And now sings a different tune, like nobody will notice. Sara = plain old politician.
Those old folks would have been pleased by the proper spelling of Sarah. Education was valued back then.
Disbarred, my A$$, they should be prosecuted. They should be sent up for as long as they intended for Ted.
I had long been of the opinion that it was time for Stevens to go, but this case was so obviously a political attack, I changed my mind and campaigned for him.
In his six terms in the Senate, I voted for him every time. We Alaskans owe Ted a great deal for what he accomplished for us in the past.
We will survive one term of Sen Baggage.
