To acknowledge the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery in the U.S. and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865, and to establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery, subsequent de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendation to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

You don't. You get on your knees and say "May I please have another"
How about the Irishmen that were slaves sent to the Americas by Britain? Don’t they deserve some attention? Or maybe the race of victims are exclusive in this issue?
Link does not work.
Plus, many of the blacks in America now aren't even from Africa, let alone descendants of slaves here.
Can you imagine the bureaucracy that will have to be set up to verify ancestors for this?
And, if they want reparations...for just the ancestors of slaves, then that should only come from tax money collected from descendants of slave holders!! My family was not here! Nor were the families of millions of Americans. Why should we pay?
I dont recall Irishmen per se being sent to America as slaves. Most of them came off their own bat.
White people of all creeds and nationalities were sent as “indentured servants”, which is an old PC way of saying “slave”, and many more were sentenced to the colonies for various criminal infractions.
Incidentally, in spite of the knee-jerk moral outrage to that last, there is evidence that many people deliberately committed minor offences just so they could be transported. After all, its cheaper than having to buy passage! Besides, compared to their current circumstance, a “new life” in the “new world” was very attractive to many folk.
Stop thinking logically and rationally! This is all about “feelings” for goodness sake! Besides, you answered your own questions. A vast bureaucracy will have to be set up to verify. Bureaucracies are good! One cannot “organise” people properly without bureaucracy. And, obviously, more control is what this world desperately needs.
:)
It is not in the interest of the black poor poor pitiful me victims to acknowledge there were significant numbers of white slaves.
I thought a lot of white slaving went on from Tangier, shipping them off to the ottaman empire as janissaries (and worse).
Gosh, does that mean I have relatives that could claim compensation from Turkey, Libya, Iraq, Egypt et al? Why do the muslims never get flak for their slave trade? Why do they never get flak for doing it now? (as in Mauretania) And its slavery on a racial basis too.
I have no problem with people slamming rich white slaveowning societies on grounds of moral outrage, justice, racism etc etc. What I object to is people playing on our guilt while sweeping the shortcomings of every other culture under the carpet.
