There are Mennonite communities in Mexico, and they would tend to live in remote areas but it is unclear why they crossed the border this day. They immediately returned south when the realized they had been spotted.
border ping
Anyone can get through.
I found very interesting that they immediately turned back after realizing they had been spotted.
Very strange. Why would they return and go back? Something really bad must be happening down there for Mennonites to do that.
Mennonites???
God forbid we would be invaded by Mennonites. I am sure they are never on welfare, cause any problems or sell drugs etc. I remember seeing them walking to, I guess, work not far from where I used to work. It was not in a traditional Mennonite area.
I think they worked at a furniture company. They looked like pleasant folks and they men sometimes had brightly colored solid color dress shirt like bright blue. The shirts were nice. I bet they made their own clothes.
Good people. I think Mexico is falling apart like Obama nation.
Now, a few generations on, many of them are poorly educated or illiterate, and thus they don't have good teaching on the Bible, which leads to problems with harsh child discipline, etc.
I’m not up this. But I made a trip by air to Guatemala City ten years ago around Christmas time. On the return flight there were on the same plane, two ladies, whether they were Mennonites or not, I do not know, but they were religious ladies dressed as Mennonites do, so they were of some sort of religious sect of the same nature. And I guess I thought they were just going home for Christmas. But there were such sects from the USA in Guatemala, and probably other countries, doing whatever they do, converting, or, and most important, running orphanages then. I assume this has been going on for years. I’m certain that the religious leaders of the sect had provided them with passports to cross. Might have been that they were trying to bring across some undocumented people, hence they returned.
Nice photos.
This wouldn’t have anything to do with April 1st, would it?
The thought is just funny. Invasion of the Mennonites!
But seriously, any Mennonite that wants to become a US Citizen, come on in. They are generally decent folks.
they are looking to escape the disastrous economic situation...
...and their joke of a once-proud country...
I'd risk crossing the border as well...
...they probably got confused when the realized they were entering the USA...where conditions are worse than Mexico....
...can't blame them for turning back.
what is that, The Great Fence of Mexico?
The many-notes. An old episode from an old TV sitcom called “Sledge Hammer!”
Who are Mennonites and what are they doing in Mexico?
Why they turned back:
They realized they reached Arizona rather than Guatemala.
They are in search of freedom and less government intrusion into their lives.
don’t know anything about this group but have it on very good authority that the mennonite community in belize is the prime producer of eggs, dairy products, and marijuana in that country....
They didn’t have to work really hard to cross that border. The fence is a joke.
We should hold our elected officials accountable for that fence.
Mennonite communities in Northern Mexico are regularly shaken when their young people are caught smuggling drugs over the border. It’s partly for excitement and partly for money.
