The story of the Mennonites in Mexico is a pretty sad one. Mennonites often split off from a larger group, sometimes under a leader, sometimes due to difference in doctrine or discipline... in this case they went to Mexico and had poor leadership, plus they have had a harder time financially.

Now, a few generations on, many of them are poorly educated or illiterate, and thus they don't have good teaching on the Bible, which leads to problems with harsh child discipline, etc.

I think you nailed it. Very sad for some good “lost sheep” who now want to return to the USA and can’t.
