Upstate battle for Kirsten Gillibrand Congressional seat is too-close-to-call

ALBANY — After a short, tense campaign, the two candidates in a New York congressional special election that focused on President Barack Obama's popularity and his economic policy were separated by fewer than 100 votes, and it looked likely the race would be decided by absentee ballots.

With all but one of the 610 voting precincts in the 20th Congressional District reporting, Democrat Scott Murphy led Republican Jim Tedisco by 81 votes out of more than 154,000 cast Tuesday in the race to replace Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand. A problem with a machine in Saratoga Springs delayed the final reporting from one precinct.

I also agree..we made good headway in turning this district back to Red. I am also in the district and Murphy’s Hogan connections are what gave him the push from unknown, and it did matter to some of the Dims, or undecideds on the fence in the upper portion of the district. He featured the Hogan family heavily in his ads.

Got to be the ACORN types I got a couple calls from - never had calls like that in the past.

One ditz called and told me she was from the Board of Elections, and she kept insisting she was, even when I pointed out that the BdElec would never ..ever..call and ask how someone was voting.
Pretty stupod, as the tele# was the same # as a call I got a week before from someone identifying themselves as from Murphy’s campaign. ( from my caller ID)

They are too stupid for words, or they think the voters are. On election day, I got a call ( 4 hours after I had voted) telling me “our records indicate that you have not yet voted...blah..blah) now how in he!! would they know.

Anyway, my concen now is if Murphy squeeks into that seat, then it’s harder to get rid of him. And the absentee votes will decide this. I tried looking through results of the fall election, and couldn’t figure anything out...anyone else have any ideas how to get the mix
of how the absentee votes fell last election? Especially this district.
We have ...
- seniors gone south for winter
- college students
- military

If you’ve still got that number.... whoever made those calls has committed a crime, and should be reported to the police.

Don’t believe it. absentees will not be opened for another week, possibly two.

I debated a lot over that the day it happened...who to call, and if anyone would do anything . With Dims & their ilk these days, I admit I was hesitant to get my name out there..and then suffer harrasment from Obamas brownshirts.

You need to get this to Bill O’Reilly somehow. He is on the ACORN story right now, had a very long segment last night with the whistle blower and has another segment on them tonight... he could use this for his investigation??????

I think he is talking of the party registration of the absentee ballots(?) not the results.

BTW - the ‘robocalls” stating that “you haven't voted” were funneled through the ‘elite ACORN squad” hiding out at skidmore. They were the brains and tech of SEIU/CSEA etc. etc.

The NRCC inspectors were keeping very close tabs on this activity, and keeping detailed records.

wow..thanks for the info, I had no idea they were up here ( figured they were calling from NYC)

I guess I am naive, I don’t get their point? I knew I voted...
Did they expect people to actually return to the polls, and try to vote again? Wouldn’t work in my polling place (in SaraCty) with the signature check in the poll book.

Kate, thanks very much for your on the ground report of the special election.
Wonder who was paying for that “Board of Election” phone call. I believe you could file a grievance since you have the phone number of the call.

Would think that the real Board of Elections doesn’t take too kindly to this kind of fraudulent representation.

That’s a clear election violation.

Thanks for taking care of that gnat rat :)

I just lurked at Kos and saw this comment - thought it was interesting, don't know why I never considered this before:

__________

I was on the phone just now, reading part of this article to a neighbor. When I got to the part about Republican registrations outweighing Democratic, she said "well you know, the only reason my husband and I are registered Republicans is because of the town elections. Otherwise, we vote Democratic."

I don't know what other towns see, but ours is, oddly, controlled by two factions of the GOP, not two different parties. Town board and supervisor seats are more or less won and lost in the GOP primary here. And I suspect that's true elsewhere in the district.

So I wonder if there are more RINOs who won't ever change their affiliation, just because of the entrenchment in local politics...

(Wonder who was paying for that “Board of Election” phone call. )

This woman, as I said was a true ditz.
She was disputing my claim that it was improper for BdElec to make these calls. ...assured me it was proper. So I asked her ‘which’ county she was calling from. She said she was in NYC. LOL

Oh really....yup then she slipped and said she was just outside campaign headquarters.
Oh really...our Saratoga Cty BdElec office is now in NYC, and all along I thought it was in Ballston Spa

The number was an 866#, sorta like an 800# I think

My first thought was you guys: military absentee ballots—I would think—will trend heavily republican. We’ll see though.

In the big picture, the worst and most long-lasting thing Bush did was countenance the illegals. Demographics are destiny and the fact is that new immigrants vote Left, period. Take a look at the Pew Political Typology surveys if you want to be scared and/or disgusted.

She may be an idiot but that “Board of Ed” voter using an 866 line was still violating election law.

And someone was advising her to do it.
