The story I heard was that she was looking to convert almost out of a sense of vindictiveness -- mainly to have her two sons also convert, so they would not be able to serve as King of England (since 1688, British law has forbidden Roman Catholics from serving on the throne).
From what I understood, Mother Teresa convinced her that she would be doing it for the wrong reasons.
