Newsmax / The Associated Press ^ | March 30, 2009

Commerce Secretary Gary Locke is urging census volunteers to reach out to hard-to-count communities, where Hispanic and Asian immigrants often mistake the workers as law enforcement officials or tax collectors.

In his first public appearance as secretary, Locke spoke at a training conference Monday held by the Census Bureau for partnership groups ranging from AFL-CIO to the NAACP and Vote Latino.

He stressed that personal information submitted on the census form will be kept absolutely confidential.

Maybe some freepers can post some flyers I and others can print and hand out telling people that the census takers ARE tax collectors, ICE agents, etc.

I guess the files will be kept secret, like the Clintons kept those files secret...or how Dopey-Changey worked with a group that fixed elections, ACORN.

Or, La Raza, that fights for the rights of lawbreakers...

More Democratic “truth”.

They are trying to say MORE people live in the areas in order to get more represenation. Remember in the 2000 Census, Michigan lost a represenative, GA gained one, etc. This is by far worse than gerrymandering.

Having worked previously for the Census for quite some time, I've always been baffled by this claim.

I worked in a lot of different areas, and I always found Hispanics (who were pretty obviously mostly illegal immigrants, though legal status isn't asked in the interview; they'd always volunteer that they had a "Green card") extremely cooperative. Same mostly goes for lower-class black areas. At NO time was I ever mistaken for law enforcement or a tax collector.

By FAR the most hostility and lack of cooperation I saw towards the Census was in wealthy white neighborhoods in Republican areas.

“He stressed that personal information submitted on the census form will be kept absolutely confidential.””

At the 2000 census, I got a multipage form that I was “required to fill out by government order”, and I filled in my name- age- and that there was only one person in this residence.
All the other questions bout how far I commuted to work, how many bathrooms I had in the house, how many vehicles I owned, how far I drove each year, and lots of other “information” was not filled in.
I wrote “N O Y D B” None of your damn business on each and every page.
Never got any follow-up.
All that extra information was not needed to set districts for the House of Representatives.
