Obama wants YOU … to buy a car

AUTOS-OBAMA/President Barack Obama is now America’s car salesman.

Obama made his sales pitch on Monday as he laid out White House plans for restructuring the struggling auto giants General Motors and Chrysler. Buy a car, he said, and you might qualify for a tax deduction.

“The IRS is launching a campaign to alert consumers of a new tax benefit for auto purchases made between February 16th and the end of this year — if you buy a car anytime this year, you may be able to deduct the cost of any sales and excise taxes. And this provision could save families hundreds of dollars and lead to as many as 100,000 new car sales,” Obama said.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs followed up on this theme a bit at his daily briefing saying Obama “absolutely” would prefer for Americans to buy U.S.-made cars.

“I don’t want to turn this into an advertisement,” he said,

My brother got a minivan. He traded his Ford van. The new thing uses less gas, but still isn’t big enough to get all the groceries home from town. Still, I like Ford.

And if I was them, I’d be cranking out the trucks right now.

The good thing about this (if there’s any good thing) is that everyone’s going to think twice about wanting a bailout. Who knew a bailout made OUR president the company’s de facto president?

And there needs to be a heap o’ hollering about Geithner (who is effectively the dictator of a Department) wanting the power to take over businesses.

His first step will be government takeover of large (and somewhat suffering) hospital systems.

My daughter is out looking at one right now, an F-150. I want her in a safe vehicle, but I’m wondering if it’s not just a little too much for her to handle.

This is no news to me. I saw it a long time ago. I think that marxism is full of narcissists.

It will start with an innocent government buy back program of older vehicles.....

I was thinking more along the terms that I would help FlashBack lose that burden.. having an old Mach 1 Mustang like that must be a lot of work.. I would be doing him a favor buying it from him...

Now that I have a new camera, I’m chomping at the bit for the classic car shows here in the area next summer.

After the takeover of GM and the stunt they just pulled to oust the CEO, I won't buy a GM car EVER. Also, any car made by a UAW union-controlled automaker is not one I'll buy, either.

This thuggery and socialist support from these Unions, Lawyers, and any other companies I can identify puts them on my "do not buy" from list.

I seek conservative local U.S. Citizen vendors and suppliers only.

Should have used those trillions of dollars for tax credits.

A $5,000 tax credit for buying a new car woulda worked real good.

“After Mrs. Knewshound was hit by a drunk driver”

I truly hope that Mrs Knewshound is unhurt. I was a victim of a drunk driver myself years ago (thank G-d I was driving a 1978 Oldsmobile 98 - a land yacht) I was uninjured. Like I said, I hope that your wife is physically ok; just tell her it’s normal to have some residual feelings about the accident for a while to come.

Signed the deal and recieved delivery today of a brand new Ford F150 for my sons graduation present to take to college.

And to think I did it without knowing Zero was going to give me an incentive.

I can't wait to get my hand on one of those 40 mile range Volts. /sarc

Too bad I work 28 miles from home. I'll have to plug in my office outlet and run the cord through the parking lot.

Screw em!

I'll never buy a GM product as long as the government is calling the shots.

Absolutely under NO circumstances, no way in cowboy hell will I ever ever ever buy a new car from Chrysler or GM again, period! These wimps should have reached down between their legs and given their balls a tug to see if they were still there and told Obama to stick his money where the sun don't shine.

I will, however, go out and buy a new Honda soon to replace the one I have now before they get taxed and tariff'd out of existence.

Thank you very much for the kind thoughts.

She is starting to get a little better but was banged up terribly badly. He hit her while she was stopped at a red light. He was going 45mph and never touched the brakes.

I am thankful I have always insisted she drive very solid vehicles. The Nissan was as studly as I could have asked for and held up remarkably well under the circumstances.

She has finally returned to work, although it is only a few hours a day but she is grateful just to get out of the house at this point.

I will pass along your thoughts to her and I thank you for your concern and I hope you came through your ordeal well.

Thanks again,

knewshound
