Yuengling poised to become largest American-owned brewer

POTTSVILLE -- America's oldest brewery might soon be the largest American-owned brewer.

Riding a 20-year wave of growth, D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. is closing in on sales of 2 million barrels a year, bringing the 180-year-old company within a pint or two of surpassing the Boston Beer Co. and its Samuel Adams brands in sales.

How did this happen?

A big reason is that foreign-based companies have acquired such beer behemoths as Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors. Another is the coal-region beer's rapid growth.

With Bud owned by Brazilians and Belgians, Miller owned by South Africans, and Coors co-owned by Canucks, Yuenglings is the last big boy standing.

And it is excellent for a macro brew.

PS. No hot babe pictures allowed!!

Yuengling is one of my favorites.....

People away from the east think it is a Chinese brew......I think it is gaining a bigger market so hopefully it will make it to the TX market and then it will have to compete with the Shiner market......

My state has the most micro breweries per capita. Some are even excellent.

Yuengling is EXCELLENT and well priced beer. It used to be a Pennsylvania secret until all you slackers started buying our beer.

It is a private company. I WISH I could invest in them.

I'd like to try Yuengling, but I can't find it on the West Coast.

OTOH, I can get these:

Both are outstanding IPAs. Perhaps a lot different than Yuengling, but they are my faves.

Much better than the Rock. Not sure if it made its way to Tejas or not

I know. But they contract out 99% of their brewing. Still the biggest for another year, maybe.

Congrats to Yuengling for resisting the Globalist push to anti-Americanize our economy.

Will start consuming their products more.

It is more common in Florida now....first time I had a Yuengling was when tailgaiting with Penn State fans in Happy Valley a few years ago....Y-ling is a good brew

I’m glad they are held tightly. Otherwise Obama and his minions would screw them over.

“Sort of” contract out the brewing. It’s their people, using the big guys factories.
