Hundreds of immigrant supporters rallied Saturday at a Family Unity forum south of Orlando, decrying deportations that tear apart families and calling for immigration reform.
They were pastors from dozens of churches of various denominations, activists and local politicians, and a largely Hispanic crowd that easily overshadowed the sole anti-amnesty protester reported to have been escorted off the property.
It was standing-room only inside Pabellón de la Victoria, a Hispanic evangelical church that seats about 1,500 people, as participants listened to U.S. citizens separated from their loved ones. ....
A Puerto Rican mother of five told how her Mexican husband and a friend were arrested and detained at Orlando International Airport. She said agents zeroed in on them because they looked Mexican and because her husband's friend was wearing a T-shirt with the Virgin of Guadalupe's image on it.
Another woman spoke of how her husband was questioned, detained and deported after a traffic stop, even though he was only a passenger in that vehicle.
A native-born U.S. citizen recounted the day he got a call from his frantic 7-year-old son telling him that police had taken his mother.
That person was Robert Cote of Tavares, whose wife, Rita, was recently released to her family after the outcry of immigrant and civil-rights advocates over her arrest by local police. The couple went on stage with their three boys -- the Honduran woman still wearing an electronic ankle bracelet tracking her whereabouts.
"I am an American citizen, and I am a veteran of this country," said Robert Cote, who fought with the U.S. Army in Operation Desert Storm. "I'm ashamed and I'm angry at the way Latino immigrants are treated in this country. ... I fought in war for this country, and I'm going to fight this war for my family"

“decrying deportations that tear apart families and calling for immigration reform.”
Here’s an idea: come here LEGALLY in the first place and then you wouldn’t be in the mess you’re in!!!!!!
Somehow, I just don’t see how allowing people from other countries to invade and overrun our country can be considered as “immigration reform.” Of course, I don’t do drugs either.
If you didn’t illegally come here in the first place, you couldn’t be torn apart!
At one time, Orlando was on the top ten list of the best places to live in the US, that title has long since vanished. Mostly due to Katrina Refugees and “Illegal” immigrants.
A few dozen protesters here are covered by the media, while thousands at tea party protests are ignored.
Gee, I love the smell of Deportation in the Airways of America..
Familys want to get together ? Try your Country of birth.
Don’t have a VISA to America ? Stay home.
‘Immigrants’ use the front door, people!
sending illegal aliens home with their families will reduce unemployment, cut state and local welfare, crime and medical expenses and generally improve living conditions for all.
it is the illegal aliens who must return to their homes of origin - with their families. Children of illegals should not be able to claim their US citizenship until they reach their majority.
Once a foreign national gets the green card they become an immigrant. This country was settled over the years by immigrants. We are a country of immigrants and these people you describe are trying to erase the line that marks the difference.
My point is that the protestors are being called immigrants when in reality...
Nevermind.
I understand - I have a thing about law breakers whether protesting in Orlando or sitting in Congress.
