Is this a county by county thing being done by CARB? I haven’t noticed that many closings around these parts, ie Sacramento/Sierra region. (described by the SacBee.com as “Superior California”)
I just love the way these GovernMental EnvironMental activists over-reach the bounds of decent public policy and come right out and show themselves to everyone as the miserable leftist, commonist apuratchicks that they are.
Their obvious wet dream is the USSA and of course that will trigger what you rightly refer to. So let the fun begin!!!
As I understand it, the regulation is state wide — as directed by CARB. Implementation involves the local AQMDs, though.
I didn’t mean to mislead you in my post. They’ve been closing over the years, not just in the past few months. It used to be (10-15 years ago) that one could find a gas station (or two, or three, or four) at most major intersections in my area. I would guess that 2/3 of those are gone. No problem... they can just herd you over to Costco or Walmart (both of which I hate).
The commercial value of those corner lots that used to be gas stations has got to be pretty high in urban-ville. That may be the big difference between your neighborhood and mine.
You won’t have to wait long. Just wait for the first hurricane warnings......
Of course the MTBE leaking from tanks was actually a righteous problem because of the way it went to water sources, especially wells, like a heat seeking guided missle!!! It (MTBE) was however so horribly caustic that it may very well have caused leaks to develop in said tanks at a premature rate.
I know of at least 4 stations that I used to frequent that have disappeared in the last year.
You’re right — the underground tank programs killed quite a few stations back about 1990.
MTBE... let’s not ruin a nice Sunday by talkin’ about that, LOL.
It’s amazing how a$$hats who can’t even run the governments they were elected to run, feel themselves capable of running a business they wouldn’t be qualified to work for in any capacity.
And they must make the most of it when money is tight. This regulation business they are in must reward their efforts towards "doing good for the environment." It must pay for their retirement. It must pay for their big house and vacation home. And they need to pay the nanny and save for their kids’ college. Maybe it pays for a few flings on the wild side. These are bureaucrats in a bureaucratic world. It the Culture: Everything for them but the rest of us be damned.
They will bust people's heads and destroy their families to get what they want. They are everything our forefathers warned us would happen if we let them do what they do.
They have the levers of government.
They want to ban your big screen TVs:

So, when you want to stay home and not “destroy the planet” with a drive to the beach, you will have to watch a government approved TV. Or, they will be knocking on your door and be, "Doing our job, ma'am!"
A business opportunity in California is starting a franchise of bicycle dealerships.
***********************************************************
Bicycles that used to sell for $350-$450 now are made in China and sold at WMT for $100-120 and with defunct US brand names on them such as Schwinn ... If they’d just start selling a good “city bike” model I’d buy one tomorrow but I’m not paying bike shop prices for a Raleigh/Specialized/Cannondale made in the very same Chinese factories ... I want something like a 1973 Schwinn Suburban , steel frame, “straight” handlebar, somewhere between 5 and 7 gears (ie. rear derailier only , no complicated twist shift , gimme a lever), V-brakes or better , aluminum wheels with quick release and moderately wide tires (with thorn proof inserts) and a comfort seat.
“The new vapor-recovery systems are designed to trap more smog-forming compounds than older equipment does as much as 10 tons daily. That is equivalent to taking 450,000 cars off the road, regulators estimate.”
AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE OPEN BORDERS TO PUT 450,000 MORE CARS ON THE ROAD?
CARB just loves to jerk around manufacturers.
You will never see a more intransigent bureaucracy in this country.
Maybe North Korea has some that exceed its ability to frustrate people.
Case in point:
California Cool Paints Initiative Ugly, Lazy [black cars to be banned cuz A/C ups CO2 emissions]
If California regulators get their way, auto makers may soon be forced to rewrite a cliché from the Ford Model T era and start telling customers they can have any color they want as long as it isnt black. Some darker hues will be available in place of black, but right now they are indentified internally at paint suppliers with names such as mud-puddle brown and are truly ugly substitutes for todays rich ebony hues.
So buy a black car now, because soon they wont be available or will look so putrid you wont want one. And thats too bad, because paint suppliers say black is the second- or third-most popular vehicle color around the world.
The problem stems from a new cool paints initiative from the California Air Resources Board. CARB wants to mandate the phase-in of heat-reflecting paints on vehicle exteriors beginning with the 12 model year, with all colors meeting a 20% reflectivity requirement by the 16 model year.
*snip*
On the surface, its not a bad idea, but fundamental issues reveal profoundly flawed legislation: Buildings and vehicles are manufactured and recycled differently, and no one buys a building based on its color.
Another troublesome fact: Heat-reflecting paints for black and other dark colors on vehicles have not been invented yet.
Paint suppliers also say heat-reflecting pigments that could be used in automotive applications contain toxic heavy metals that cause environmental damage and create health and safety issues during manufacturing and recycling.
Exactly right al, thanks for saying it for me.

Socialists are bringing America to her knees. Time to get the ‘ef out.
BASTARDS!
Gil Moore has been steadily selling off his gas stations across the state, unwilling to risk hefty fines or shutdown orders for not replacing old nozzles that release unhealthy toxins with every gallon pumped.
