In the face of this nonsense, let us not forget that some of FR’s greatest efforts have come from Mormons (Jeff Head comes immediately to mind).
Anti-freepers as a group have failed to make any positive mark on this world, and I suspect that this current group will wither as most of the previous ones have.

This isn't surprising.
Mormonism has always depended upon hiding the truth from those whom it would control and fleece, and FR is one of the few sites where the non-Christian doctrines of Mormonism are consistently brought to light.
Many former Mormons find themselves quite happy in the LCMS - as Martin Luther was never fond of religious hierarchy and prefered the Word / the truth be made available directly to the individual, as God intended.

As a former Mormon I must say that such behavior goes against the grain of the faith. Tolerance of other Christian religions and the following arguments are to be embraced; it is a chance to give ones own testimony. On a forum you speak to many readers; your words may strike others in a favorable way.
I have never liked the ad hominem arguments against any religion; if your beliefs cannot be well supported you need to study more, not engage in personal attacks.
I’ll keep my eyes and ears open; if I learn anything I’ll let you know.

Mormons have recently been taking a pounding from the Calvinists/Evangelicals on the Religion forum, I've noticed. It came right out of nowhere. At one time there were
zero threads about Mormonism then suddenly there was nothing but Mormon threads. Mormonism seems to have taken over from Catholicism as the Calvinist "target-of-choice", so I'm sure there are some angry Mormons around. However, trying to shut down FR is an insane, scattergun response to the issue.
I guess some folks think they're doing the Almighty's work in exposing what they see as the truth but the "slash and burn" method of evangelism makes me want to run as fast as I can in the opposite direction. It's basically Islam with a "born again" mantra.

I have wondered for some time why the anti Mormon threads, which is basically what Mormon threads became, were not relegated to the Religious forum. The names that have been listed on that new Mormon anti-FR site have been ones I associate with anti Mormon comments and I pass over them on sight whatever the thread is about. IMO, this situation is analogous to school yard bullies. It takes only a handful to keep a totally unnecessary fight going. The Mormons who participate in this wrangling over religious beliefs have been willing participants in self victimization so I have no sympathy for them either. Further, Mitt Romney is the real causal factor for some of the anti Mormon screeds. I believe that some posters are merely using the Mormon threads to indirectly attack Romney. Any thread on Romney brings the anti Mormon pingers out in full force. As to this new anti FR blogger, he is as bad as the anti Mormon pingers on FR. He is directing his anger in a very unproductive way towards FR and fueling the egos of those particular posters who anguish him. These posters have remained fairly steady in size so apparently their influence is minimal and they are mostly talking to themselves and taking up tons of space doing so. Self importance seems to be the driving force of all involved and it is not an admirable trait for anybody.

Jim, I’m fascinated by your virtual disappearance since posting this thread. With all that’s been said here & posted to you, I would think you would have had more to say. Surely you knew the firestorm this thread would create. Now that views have been expressed, feelings shared directly towards you, have your views towards the situation changed?

Well, this is indeed undesirable. I find it hard to believe that any true, devoted Mormon would take this action.
To a man and woman, every Mormon I've ever met was genuinely nice, and decent. One hopes that they would condemn any disruption by any rogues amongst their faith.
Of course, I'm assuming that Romney figures in this matter. I fully expect a lot of Mormons to support him, yet I am confident that they will rally behind Sarah Palin once she's captured the nomination. They will be gratefully welcomed.

I am what is described as an ‘active Mormon’. Have been all my life.
If some Mormons are against FreeRepublic than they are not very conservative or have thin skins regarding the post discussing the LDS church.
I guess I just have to increase my donation to FR.

I'm sure someone has already said it, but this is clearly a group of those Mormons who can't figure out why Mitt Romney is generally persona non grata around here.
Hint: It's not because he's a Mormon.

Personalize it
Polarize it.
I’m not a Mormon. Have no interest in being one. But I know the good Mormons have done for our country....Prop 8 anyone? Why are we eating our own? There are significant issues in this country, let’s stop playing into Alinsky’s master plan.

Pity.
I have recently subscribed to a great genealogy site based in Utah. I don't know whether the Mormons run it, but it is good value. It was they who painstakingly transcribed with non-Mormon volunteers, the census for 1880 in the United States and the 1881 census for England/Wales and Canada. All for free. Others grabbed the many previous and post 1881 census records and one has to pay for entry.
The Mormons very, very involved with family history and records. A thought has struck me (duck). There is a certain matter they could research.
Take a trip to Honolulu. (chuckle).
