Evening Tweeze.
Fingers crossed for a great weekend.
The way I see it, if nobody writes off a car or leaves the track in an ambulance, it’s a great weekend. It’s supposed to be a warm one too, but Sonoma is almost always cold in the morning (it gets fog rolling in off the ocean during the night, which is one of the things that makes it such a good wine-producing region). I’ll start the day wearing a sweatshirt under my jacket and be down to a T-shirt by lunchtime.
That said, three years ago we had really heavy rain for the season opener (it was also at Sears Point). From Turn 1, we had water flowing down the track counter-course from Turn 2. We ended up taking lunch early that day to wait for the rain to let up; sending Formula Fords out in a torrential rain is never a good idea because they really hurt for traction in the wet even with rain tires and the cockpit resembles a bathtub by the end of a session (perhaps THIS is the reason car guys colloquially refer to a car’s chassis as a “tub”).
