Gov't stimulus projects include wage requirements

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Welders, bricklayers and other construction workers under the U.S. government's $787 billion stimulus law would earn significantly higher wages in some areas than crews on private, non-stimulus projects. Wage rules in the law are a potential bonus to workers' wallets but they're upsetting contractors who say it will increase their costs and reduce the numbers of projects that can be funded.

Tucked within the 407-page law is a requirement that laborers and mechanics employed on government stimulus projects be paid "prevailing wages," which is defined as the salary and fringe benefits for corresponding work on similar projects in the area. The prevailing wage is usually on par with union wages and higher than the average wages for the same category of employees in the same county.

Davis-Bacon, originally intended to keep contractor's from hiring cheap, black laborers from the South.

A grand, union tradition now for 70+ years.

This has *always* been about looting the taxpayer to favor Rat constituencies — ACORN, SEIU, ANSWER, NEA, etc.

When the stimulus money is exhausted, the union workers will resume their places in line at the unemployment office. The non-union workers will still be employed. Enjoy the cake.

When the stimulus money is exhausted their wont be any non union workers employed as they were forced to close because of the lack of work during the porkulus. Small business is already hurting and many have closed shop or laid off their employees.

BS. Restaurants and retail aren't dependent on the "porkulus". The parties salivating for porkulus money are the construction trades. The porkulus legislation preferentially steers that money to union workers. Projects that aren't funded by the porkulus will be looking for non-union works with better rates. The "porkulus" is going to be filling Democrat campaign coffers via union dues.

Small business is already hurting and many have closed shop or laid off their employees.

Small business is laying off in anticipation of skyrocketing taxes and the threat of being unionized by EFCA. If you haven't figured it out, unions fund Democrats. Democrats raise taxes. You can thank unions for trashing the economy.
