It is another sound good piece of legislation. H.R. 1388 has a creative title; The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act. 321 representatives of the people voted approval for this legislation which, among many other things, strikes a blow to the rights of people to mount any protests against legislation. Listen closely, it outlaws the right to mount protests against proposed legislation.

Northwest Oakland County, about 40 miles north of the sewer (Detroit). Not exactly rural, it's right next to Pontiac (Detroit's ugly little brother). Very nice conservative suburb.
Geez, what are you guys hearing these days? I hear about protest and stuff like that but you folks seem to get the feeling it's going to be more than that.
Luckily I'm not prone to panic. =)
Planting the seeds for a new civil war.
I believe that Sec 125 has been repealed.....and no...it doesn’t make this issue palatable.
You think were are heading to a violent confrontation?
From the HR1388 Misc. section, #6104:
Can’t find it. The bill on the Senate Calendar (the one that will be voted on) doesn’t have a section 6104
From seeing some of you postings on previous threads, you seem to expect the same. =)
Time will tell, won't it?
Expect an “angry backlash” soon.
Please, spread the word. I have had an awful time getting people to believe this! Sent out info to a lot of conservative friends and heard nothing back. I think it seems so farfetched to everyone they just can’t believe it’s true!
I don’t know if the Senate version has the “Mandatory” volunteerism wording in it, but it does have a lot of really awful stuff. You might ping JoyGrace, she’s been posting a lot of threads the last few weeks on this subject and may have read the Senate version more carefully than I have.
It actually effects only those in the program while they are doing program work ——ie the hours of community service cannot be directed towards religious or political activity. I am against this bill for many reasons but this is not one of them. I note that you folks have not complained about the fact that most seniors in high school have a reuired number of community service hours to fill before graduation

Thanks. It may be the Senate version that I was looking at, which was linked at the source article site. What I found interesting was that right below this language was some other that would seem to make conservatives very happy, in that it prohibited funds from the Act going to organizations linked to abortion, voter fraud investigations, etc. In fact, the gist of this provision seems to me to have more to do with whether or not to provide GIVE Act funding to organizations than actually preventing anyone from participating in the listed activities.
Thank you.
My wife (a conservative) thinks it's a good idea. She says it'll get people busy and helping out. She doesn't get the "mandatory" part is comparable to slavery.
Yes, The Misc section 6104 is in the House version of the bill HR1388. Did you see anything on there about whether they got the cloture invoked (on the Senate version) so there can be no filibuster? I never heard the outcome of that.
I know the feeling. I told a couple of people @ church about this last night and they looked at me like I was speaking Greek.
Man, it’ll be WAY too late by then. They are pushing their agenda far faster than I think anyone thought they would. They have a game plan. They know how much time they have and are are wasting no time “talking” about it or even reading the bills they are passing. This has been in the works for a long time and unless we snap out of our lethargy we are going to be done for.
They know the 2010 timline as well as we do.

“Do you think this bunch of bozos in DC are worried about what might be coming?”
I think so. The liberals are like Stalin: totally paranoid of all existing and potential opposition and willing to stop it at all costs.
Considering that it will probably be structured such that if you go to public school, have outstanding student loans, get a federal grant, receive any government assistance, even food stamps, etc...you are required to perform some “mandatory” volunteer service, they could perpetually keep you in-the-system and strong arm you into not exercising your free speech rights. I wouldn’t put it past them.
