Is it time for RNC Chairman Michael Steele to say sayanora? Im starting to think so in light of his latest embarrassing and contradictory statements. [H/t Sam Stein, HuffPo--what can I say, that's where I found the story!]
From Stein column:
Speaking with CNNs Don Lemon [video at link above]: Steele said he would think about running for the White House but only if that is where God wants me to be at that time.
Discussing his tiff with Rush Limbaugh in which he called Rushbo incendiary and ugly, Steele contended that it was all a part of a grand strategic plan. Im very introspective about things. Im a cause-and-effect kind of guy. So if I do something, theres a reason for it
It may look like a mistake, a gaffe. There is a rationale, there is a logic behind it, he said. I want to see what the landscape looks like. I want to see who yells the loudest. I want to know who says theyre with me but really isnt. It helps me understand my position on the chess board. It helps me understand, where, you know, the enemy camp is and where those who are inside the tent are, Steele added. Its all strategic.

&A with Ken Blackwell, Candidate for GOP Chairman
What is your solution for the 12 million people who are here illegally?
Blackwell: First, I think what we have to do first is stop the bleeding, meaning protect our borders. We then must have a reasonable--within the construct of our budgetary limits--have a program that basically says we will go after illegal immigrants, particularly those we suspect are engaged in criminal activity and we will prosecute and deport them. We then will have a system that puts folks who have come here illegally but havent engaged in criminal activity at the back of the line. So, the message we must continue to send is that we will strengthen, at every turn, the rule of law.
haven’t seen you two in a coon’s age!! how yunz been? ; )
Thanks for bringing that to my attention: I hadn’t been aware of it and it is definitely a negative.
So the real question here is how do we actually get rid of Steele? He thinks too much of himself to resign so we need to find out what the procedure to remove him is. What are the rules for a recall? We need to take immediate action before Steele totally screws the 2010 elections. Anyone know?
You will lose Michael.
Anyone remember PeeWee Herman in “PeeWee’s Big Adventure”? When he falls off his bike, he gets up and says “I meant to do that!” That’s what Steele is trying to do here.
I don’t want someone in there that is “strategically planning” all the time. Weighing his moves and plotting. Oh, please. He needs to go away.
This hits the nail on the head. An unsuccessful Obama administration will result in a huge setback for blacks.
Let me get this straight: His strategic plan to bring the Republican party back to prominence is to accept liberal cliche's on their face and marginalize the conservative base of the party.
He is falling into the same trap that all moderate (read: liberal) Republicans do. They want to be liked. He is making another common mistake; assuming that Liberals are really good people who just want the best for the country (Read: McCain and Bush)
‘til he actually gets in the game.
Me too. I'd have a hard time choosing between him and Palin or Jindal in a Primary race. That's what we call a "good problem".
For me, it is a disqualifier, just as Steele’s support of affirmative action should have ruled him out as RNC Chair. It reminds me of Bush’s appointment of Martinez to be RNC Chair and his support of amnesty. Unless Republicans go back to such core values as the rule of law, adherence to the Constitution, and individual responsibility, we will continue evolving into just another wing of the Democrat Party.
I can’t remember if I posted anything here to defend Mr. Steele and I’m too lazy to check. But if I did, here’s a rare apology.
The presidency of Suriname, maybe.
But that's exactly what you should want.
This is stupid of Steele in so many ways!
Someone that stupid has no business running for dogcatcher, and certainly no business as RNC Chief - where his job is finding good candidates & raising money & taking care of the base.
Am thinking the same thing about what the Dems foisted upon us. Blacks will suffer in the long run for sure.
Think Obama, Burris, Paterson, Holder, Rangel - it is not a pretty picture of black leadership.
Blacks will still dumbly pull the lever 96% of the time based upon race but the people who elected Obama were predominantly white, and that is another story for whites to continue to accept such poor leadership from blacks.
Haley was a good one.
Strategy planning is not what we need from Steele.
We need someone who will get in the face of the opposition and tell them exactly without mincing words what our stand is.
I love this guy from U.K.

I fear this is true and it is the kind of mistake that leads to a furthering of the racial divide that cannot be reconciled in a generation.
