ROMNEY: Cautionary tale of card check Mitt Romney Wednesday, March 25, 2009
** FILE ** Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Mr. Romney submitted a column to The Washington Times as part of the Reinventing Conservatism series. (Astrid Riecken/The Washington Times)
ANALYSIS/OPINION: (Part of our Reinventing Conservatism series)
In 2006, my last year as governor of Massachusetts, I vetoed a card-check bill that allowed public workers to organize if a majority signed union authorization cards as opposed to casting a traditional secret ballot. The veto was a gain for the rights of employees and employers to a fair election, but the victory was short-lived.

O.K., let's see what he says, since you asked for it...
I was just making the point that Romneycare is not worse than what existed before and is probably better, given the ease with which I was able to obtain individual coverage when I needed to.
The health care system is far from perfect in Massachusetts or elsewhere. Starting in WW2, when employers began offering health care benefits as a way to evade FDR's wage ceilings, we've let health care become more and more insulated from the market. We need to divorce health care from employment (and from government) and make it subject to market forces. That will wring out the inefficiencies and put providers' efforts towards providing real value.
You have a whole lot to lecture me on for one comment regarding Romney. Read the comment and THINK for God's sake! I get it about Mitt and appreciate your latter point of view regarding why you do not like Mitt. Understandable. Just quit it with this lecture BS because I had a nice thing to say about the man. Fascism and anti-intelligence is running rampant these days. What's next? Jail?
Just a hint. You had some engaging points and things to say in the latter part of your post to me. THe earlier. Practice discretion and delete the ignorant stupid insults and presumptions about me. As I said maybe I should follow each of you who insult me and see when you say the smallest positive comment and stalk you with silly judgments about who you are and what you believe. That is bizarre and in the end with all of the insults this is just what is happening. How would you like it if I did that to you?
More like "Romney relabeling socialism and trying his best to make it sound like conservatism."
"Card check" must have polled well in his focus groups.
Romney is a big government socialist/abortionist liberal. I’ll never endorse him or support him on FR or allow him to be promoted on FR. If Romney ever becomes the Republican nominee for President, I will actively campaign against him.
McCain was bad enough. No more RINOS!!!
I will continue building my Romney truth file just in case.
Thankyouverymuch.
Thank you Jesus. Finally someone who uses his posts etc can include him in the conversation! Let him read what I have had to say and tell me based on that small comment and the ensuing explanations regarding it, all the nasty BS about how I am not a conservative and blah, blah, blah as many of you have said. In the meantime you still have not made your own arguments. Can you speak for yourself? Argue your own points without insults? You pinged Jim and I am proud of you there, but still can’t make your own points. I would like to hear that.
I was just poking a little fun with you.
Great points you made. Thanks for your insight. It's very much appreciated.
He just did...
I agree with you about RINOS, however when did making a positive comment about a man constitute making a person a RINO or any other thing when the bulk of their commentary is in solid defense for conservative values as many of these others have done?
If you agree with them regarding me and my comment then please kick me off FR for having a positive comment about Romney. If you agree with them please ban or suspend me from this site. Otherwise I am sick with the insults from this crew of people.
I’ve made my position on Romney as clear as I possibly can.
Well as I said. You still have not made YOUR argument and as mentioned I appreciate you having the stones to include him after referencing him. Yet do you not think and talk for yourself? As I said to ReaganMan how are we to get out of being the minority party if we can’t argue our points to people that are already, interested and engaged politically?
Informational ping to #65
I appreciate it and am very happy to see my account is still active. :-). Thank you Jim you have been clear. Now for the others. Notice he had nothing else to say and that I am still here. ‘Nought said.

If you check my posting history, I believe that you'll find that I think quite deeply, especially about liberal, northeastern "Republicans" like Romney and their pro-abortion, pro-big government, pro-socialist records, and have talked plenty for myself.
I'm at work right now, but will be glad to continue this conversation with you tonight after I get home.
In the meantime, please consider my tag line...
Romney's an abortionist POS! Stick it in your ear.
No VR just followed through with the stones. She didn’t ‘save’ you from anything. Only Jesus can do that. Got to admire the one that follows through with the courageous action and has the stones like I said. Can’t claim another’s action or stones.
Why should I stick it in my ear when like I have said repeatedly I made one positive comment about the guy and then I went on to clarify it for you? Why must an attack on me or the messenger or name calling being included in each of your posts?
Just for the record, I'm a "he", from the remote mountains and ridges of western Virginia. Hence, my nom de guerre, Virginia Ridgerunner.
