Gov. Palin focus of lecture for women's history

BARSTOW • While Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has fallen out of the national spotlight, a lecture at Barstow Community College recognized the one-time vice presidential nominee as a woman of note during a lecture on women’s history month Wednesday.

Palin was the subject of Professor Mark Cauble’s presentation, where the history and humanities professor talked about the governor’s rise in local politics and showed a portion of Palin’s nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Sept. 2008.

Cauble said he picked Palin, hoping that BCC students could relate to her humble beginnings.

“She’s like them — she’s from a small town,” he said.

Palin, who became an increasingly polarizing figure during the 2008 presidential campaign, gave a nod to her role as the first female vice presidential nominee in her address.

“This is America ... every woman can walk through every door of opportunity,” Palin said in her speech.

I chuckled at the first line that she "is out of the spotlight", but otherwise it's a very interesting and somewhat surprising article.

Its rather sad how the media bashes someone, and the term for that is called "polarizing"
When we bring to light our opponents weakness or flaws we are mean spirited or dangerous.

I hate the media, their demise will not come soon enough.

It sounds like it was quite a fair presentation, kind of surprising for a college in CA. Too bad the article didn’t give details of more reactions.

These days, speaking the truth IS controversial.

Please let me know what is “controversial” about Palin’s position on gun control and abortion. She believes in the 2nd Amendment and that humans should not be destroyed in the womb.

Its fascinating to me that in this country, where freedom is supposedly cherished, those positions should be considered controversial.

Unless you stand to profit from abortion, there is no rational reason to celebrate the destruction of innocent life.

Why is it only conservatives who are "polarizing" or "controversial" etc?

It's the damn liberals who are polarizing, controversial, hate filled monsters.

I hate the media too. But in this case the author used the word correctly. The electorate either loved (me) or hated Sarah.

From Meriam-webster:

transitive verb 1 : to cause (as light waves) to vibrate in a definite pattern

2 : to give physical polarity to

3 : to break up into opposing factions or groupings (a campaign that polarized the electorate)
