[Rush] Limbaugh An Issue in New York Special (NY-20 Congressional Election)
The Washington Post ^ | March 25, 2009 | Chris Cillizza

Democrats are seeking to use conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh to rally their base in advance of next week's special election in New York's 20th district.

A new direct mail piece from businessman Scott Murphy's campaign features an angry shot of Limbaugh over the words "I hope Obama fails." At the bottom of the piece in parentheses is written "Somebody wants you to stay home on March 31st...."

On the back of the mailer, an Obama drawing is featured with text superimposed over it that accuses "Rush Limbaugh and his lackeys in Washington" of trying to "be a roadblock to the change America desperately needs."

The Democrats will find this strategy has Zero traction.

They better hurry up and get that mailer out before their audience starts to agree with him! (Which by the looks of his polls, might not be too far off.)

"Rush Limbaugh and his lackeys in Washington"

Huh. I didn't know Rush had any lackeys, much less any in Washington.

In NY — this kind of tactic will likely work. I can say that, here in SC, it ain’t likely to. Of course, Republicans aren’t quite strategically intelligent enough to understand that NY, LA and DC aren’t LIKE the rest of the nation...

Good point. i think they also don’t understand that the Dems use tactics and strategies of the trial lawyers- they ARE the trial lawyers’ party.

Pubs have to learn to think and operate accordingly.

If that were true, McCain, not Obama would have won the Democrat ticket. In fact, Obama would have been arrested back as a "community organizer".

Democrats hope to avoid losing the upstate New York seat where Republicans outnumber Democrats by 70,000.

Just say some prayers the rats don't cheat, and we get out our vote.

From the article

He planned to address a big-donor audience - with tickets costing $30,400 per couple - at the National Women in the Arts Museum before appearing at the Warner Theater, where singer Tony Bennett was to perform. Tickets for that event range from $100 to $250 to $1,000.

I certainly hope that is a typo.
