Obama, DNC jump in on New York race (Dem internal poll shows Murphy within 2 pts)
The Politico ^ | March 25, 2009 | Jonathan Martin

National Democrats and the Obama White House are moving to counter criticism that party bigwigs have largely been AWOL in a New York special House election.

The DNC, which has given candidate Scott Murphy $5,000, is now sending another $5,000 to aid the New York Democratic Party in the March 31 contest to fill former Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand’s seat, according to a source familiar with the contribution.

And President Barack Obama has signed an e-mail urging support for Murphy and blasted it to a list of more than 50,000 allies in and around the upstate district.

“Scott has the kind of experience and background we desperately need right now in Washington,” Obama wrote. “He's created jobs by building and growing small businesses while bringing people together to address difficult challenges. He supports the economic recovery plan we've put in place, and I know we can count on him as an ally for change.”

More help is likely to come.

Some of Obama’s top lieutenants are watching the race closely and considering elevating White House and DNC involvement.

Folks, if we lose this, the GOP is toast, and all signs of a "comeback" will have been a mirage.

On the other hand, if we win, and win comfortably, that will be a huge rebuke to Obama and the Democrat party (both the DNC and the NY Democrat party). I'm hopeful that this will turn out like the Chambliss race, i.e. polls showed Chambliss ahead by 6-7, but he ended up winning by 15 pts.

If we lose here, we are done for good.

Interesting that as 0 continues his never-ending campaign, the market crashes due to the weakness in the current T-bill auction.

Absolutely. We must win this one as well as Rahm Luca Brasi Emanuel’s seat in Illinois.

Everyone, put your money where your mouth is!! I did!

Dear Supporter:

As you know, The National Republican Trust PAC is playing a major role in the battle for the special Congressional election in New York, set for Tuesday, March 21st.

That’s just a week away — but it is already turning into a major national battle. Obama and Nancy Pelosi are pouring millions into the race — along with the help of their major union allies.

They know the stakes. If their candidate, liberal Wall Street Democrat Scott Murphy loses, it will send a big message to every Democrat in the House and Senate that they could lose if they back Obama’s radical agenda.

You see, this Congressional district was once held by a Democrat, who vacated her seat to take Hillary Clinton’s place in the Senate.

Now, conservative Republican James Tedisco is fighting to win.

Incredibly polls show Tedisco either neck-and-neck or just ahead of Murphy.

We can win this seat! We need your help — Go Here Now.

We are so committed to winning this seat, we are pouring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in TV ads and more.

In fact, according to the latest AP report on the race, we at The National Republican Trust PAC have spent more money on this race than the National Republican Committee and the Congressional Republican Committee combined!

Don’t you think the people who live there are fed up completely with all the corruption in the DemocRAT Party especially in Crook County by now? This will be their chance to send a loud message.

“Don’t you think the people who live there are fed up completely with all the corruption in the DemocRAT Party “

logically one would think that however time and again we see corrupt Dems get elected and reelected

I think this district elected a Republican congressman back in 1994. It is possible.

it is possible yes i think the district was an R district until 06 which makes it a good chance for a pickup. That being said the fact that a lot of people cannot see through Obama is disconcerting to say the least. i really really hope we win this seat and the NJ and VA Governorships.
that would give us a good PR victory if nothing else and dilute some of the Dems swagger.

I donated money yesterday to tedisco’s campaign on his web site. Mitt and Rudy have been trying to help too. ACORN will probably be there.

No. If Jim Tedisco wins it sends a message to the blue Dog Dems, other Dems and maybe some RINOs. It is a very important race.

Sheer accident. Rostenkowski essentially suspended his campaign. IIRC.

I read somewhere that Murphy has tax problems (are there any Democrats who don’t?). Anyone know the details?

“Sheer accident. Rostenkowski essentially suspended his campaign. IIRC.”

KInd of like the Cao victory in New Orleans last year. A one-term wonder against a discredited crook, but sheeple will return to the fold unfortunately, so it flips back to D.

Gillibrand lucked out winning this NY-20 race. It leans GOP and should be a pickup for the GOP. “internal polling” doesnt mean much, except that if this was close, the Dem polling would actually be ahead.

I’d wager GOP wins by 8-10pts. .. IF we help.
