That’s what early warning systems ( dogs) are for.

You train your dogs to stay away from aerosol cans? I never would have thought of that.

One lung-full of oven cleaner or a few other off-the-shelf items, and they die (silently). So do people, but people don't generally bark and take full breaths like dogs. So, yeah. Aversion training is appropriate.

Fun for you and the dog. And it keeps everyone alive just one more day.

I say that to my son every week. I tell him, “I liked the 2-hour format they had a few weeks ago.”

If this was a hit, they never would have left the wife alive.

>>>>>> This the same area, where the beltway snipers were said to be.... <<<<<<

I guess that’s a good thought for a spy novel, but no, not the same area.

The only “Beltway Sniper” event near Leesburg VA was in Manassas, which is more than 20 miles away.

"...You can have a house full of guns, but if a bunch of thugs kick in your front door for a home invasion and rush into your bedroom within a few seconds in the middle of the night, and you aren't sleeping with a loaded gun in your hand, you probably don't have a chance..."

We had a scary night last month. Neither of us confirmed that our front door was locked before we went to bed. I blame her, she blames me, blah blah blah. Anyway, it was a gusty night, and as we were falling asleep, there was a very loud "BOOM!" as the front door flew open. It sounded like a person kicked it in very strongly. Turns out it was the wind, but I did not know that.

I had to go through the entire house, in my underwear, with my gun at the ready, to confirm it was clear. It was one of the scariest things I've ever done. In a way I became a man on that windy night. I had to face fear. In my underwear.

If I had been this guy, I would have been carrying Maybe the light Keltec P11. I would have also trained my wife and she would learned how to carry. This is not the first time CIA or ex-CIA people have been targeted.

The P-11 has a stiff trigger pull and a horrible kick. From my experience it is accurate to about 3m. Beyond that it's essentially useless. It's basically a ballistic knife. A Sig 226 in 9mm, -now there's a handgun.

Yes, the wife may be a person of interest.

I remember that FBI floozy who had her husband whacked a few years ago.

If you want to give yourself a hearty laugh, google William Colby (CIA Director in the '70s) and read about his mysterious death in a "boating accident".

The Sig 226 is a wonderful gun but is much heavier. The P-11 is no Sig, Beretta or CZ but it is lightweight. My guess is could have also carried something like a Beretta .380 which is pretty lightweight. Small Glock is another option.

Thius assumes they were jogging. If they were just wallking or strolling, a Glock or a Springfeild XD-M 9mm with 19 shots in the clip could lay down tactical and supression fire. They would not take me without a fight. the wife should have been carrying to based on his ex-career.

Personally, I think it was a hit-and-run. I don’t know where the 3 ppl comes from unless they stopped, got out, then decided to get the H outta there since he was obviously dead. The hit-n-run death should make it a 2nd or 3rd degree murder for most states; not sure about VA.

Yes, the wife may be a person of interest.

And the fiendishly clever part is that she had herself beaten into critical condition, too.

The police are saying that it might be a gang initiation.

I assume the description was provided by the wife,

No, a neighbor heard the commotion, looked out the window and called police. According to the articles, the police still haven't talked to the wife, who may not have even regained consciousness yet.

To those of us in flyover country, that is still in the same general area. I go over twenty miles just to go the SAM's club.

In Texas, 20 miles is almost right next door, many of the people I work with *commute* farther than that. I myself used to commute 55 miles one way, but that got old pretty fast.

For starters, neither victim was shot, and there was no evidence anyone else was, that we know of. The neighbors who called the police did not report gunshots.

So that gets rid of the spraying bullets from the van scenario, unless a silcener was used, which while they don't completely eliminate the sound, do make it sound "not like gunfire". But it doesn't get rid of the "three (or more) guys jumping out the van and overpowering them, before he could draw his carry weapon" scenario.

My point being that having a carry weapon, especially one that is concealed, and thus a bit slower to bring into play, is not a panacea, nor a guarentee that you will prevail in any altercation. It does change the odds, but there's no guarantee.
