"Tuesday night, ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 has learned more about the husband and wife who both served in the military. Cynthia Bennett is a retired Army captain and her husband William was a highly decorated special forces officer. "

And a news report later on NBC4 said that the guy had been a security expert at the CIA.
Although at first it looked random or gang-related, it's gotten a little odder.

This is Clinton style stuff where ex-CIA William Colby goes for a canoe ride and drowns. Loudoun is in VA? Anywhere near Ft Marcy park?
You would think he would have had a small light carry gun like a small KelTec.
Shades of the Clinton years.
Fort Marcy Park is off the George Washington Parkway in the next county over.
If my reading of spy novels is correct....Spooks have an unwritten protocols for wet work. You take out one of ours, we take out one of yours.
The other weird thing is that the Wash Post reported he was identified from his fingerprints that the police had on file because he had a concealed carry permit. I couldn’t understand why he didn’t have his weapon with him. I still lean toward in the direction of random violence, but there are a few little niggling details that make you wonder.
Was he and his wife involved with the NEW Administration?
Just asking?
It'll probably turn out to be one guy in green pickup. This the same area, where the beltway snipers were said to be a white guy in a white van, but turned out be two black guys, in blue Chevrolet Caprice.
How do we know he didn't. They aren't magic wands you know. Three jumping out of a van, it that's what they were, or just spraying bullets out of whatever sort of vehicle they had, might not leave any time to draw from concealment.
He could have been carrying a Keltec P11. 20 ounces loaded with 11 shots of 9 mm and a very serviceable little gun.
If I was ex-CIA and Spec OPs - you better believe I would be carry especially in walk or jog on a trail.

For starters, neither victim was shot, and there was no evidence anyone else was, that we know of. The neighbors who called the police did not report gunshots.
No mention of his or his wife’s current level of involvement, consulting, what have you. Age not given, from the photo he wasn’t out of his fifties, wife younger still.
So, I don’t know. Three attackers, in a white van; doesn’t sound gang. I assume the description was provided by the wife, who was found injured across the road, where she had apparently hidden and then became incapacitated.
The wife, with her background, will be of interest as well.
So very true. You can have a house full of guns, but if a bunch of thugs kick in your front door for a home invasion and rush into your bedroom within a few seconds in the middle of the night, and you aren't sleeping with a loaded gun in your hand, you probably don't have a chance. That's why I sleep with a loaded gun in my hand. LOL (joking)
As you implied, guns don't help you if you can't readily use one. In the home you have some control. In the scenario I just spoke of, an alarm system or dogs could alert you and give you just enough time to be ready. While out walking around as the victim in this story was, you don't have that luxury. While you are carrying a weapon for protection, could get popped in the head from 250 yards away and never know what hit you, or someone could just walk up behind you at the right moment and blow your head off. Guns only improve your chances of survival in some circumstances, if someone that knows what they are doing is determined to kill you out away from your house, they probably will....
Best advice I can give is don't be where the stuff splashes.

The one hour episodes are too damn short!
If this is the same Bill Bennett on Hannity & Colmes , the ex-CIA officer, I wonder how Sean feels when the people you have had on your show are murdered and your wife hopefully survives to talk about the white van . I don’t know anything about William Bennett but this stinks worse than the dead fish Rahmbo sent to a frenemy.
1 dog ~ 5 seconds, if they don't hit it with oven cleaner in the lungs. My dogs are trained away from aerosol cans for that reason.
Other than that, it's a coin flip. No one makes it out alive, anyway.
