Compare this guy to Obama tonight.

For one, Murray's brain hasn't been fried on drugs.

Within a decade, no one will try to defend the equality premise.

Very good overall, but he's way off with this prediction.

Truly. Steely this was a speech a president other than Obama could have made if that person was a conservative. This speech should be what the next real conservative candidate delivers should be like. Reaganesque but addressing todays problems with a high regard for the people as opposed to the government to handle them.

“Very good overall, but he’s way off with this prediction”

I disagree in the since that the equality premise will have to fail. Nothing backs it up. Nothing. Maybe it will take more than 10 years though.

Wonderful, wonderful.

What it comes down to is that America's elites must once again fall in love with what makes America different.

I read over twenty years ago, that the problem in America, was that it didn't have an "establishment", i.e. a tier of citizens at the top who were loyal to This country, rather than to the pursuit of wealth anywhere on the globe.

There are several notable financiers who have abandoned this country, notably Jim Rogers.

And many others who have their wealth in secret accounts off shore.

As the Bible says, where your wealth is, your heart will be. Many, and I hope all will follow their wealth offshore when the living is no longer so easy and different from the Europe they are working so hard to import. Then the healing will begin naturally.

First, the problem with the European model, namely: It drains too much of the life from life. And that statement applies as much to the lives of janitors--even more to the lives of janitors--as it does to the lives of CEOs.

Very interesting observation and very true. This was a really interesting article, although I think he's being a little too sunny in his estimate that Obama represents just another take on the social democrat line. Obama's goals are much more extreme, and his way of achieving them is going to be much harsher.

Thanks for the ping cic. It is a very good article, and can be summed up as this:

We have become victims of our own success.

In a way, what Obama is doing now may be the salvation of our American way of life. His excesses will show graphically the folly of “equality” for everyone.

His, and the Dem’s, entire program will guarantee misery for everyone, and it will not be tolerated for long.

Not only are social democrats intellectually respectable, the European model has worked in many ways. I am delighted when I get a chance to go to Stockholm or Amsterdam, not to mention Rome or Paris. When I get there, the people don't seem to be groaning under the yoke of an evil system. Quite the contrary. There's a lot to like--a lot to love--about day-to-day life in Europe, something that should be kept in mind when I get to some less complimentary observations.

The systems of Europe are possible and reasonably successful only because of the United States. Because we provide for Europe's defence and frequently provide direct economic aid, there's a lot of room left in their budgets for social programs.

Were the protective superpower of the USA disappear tomorrow, I suspect some European budgets would be seen in an entirely different light.

Then the healing will begin naturally.

Yeah, "Let the Healing Begin!"

A cliche, but true.

Quite honestly, I think it is time for a general Housecleaning in the USA.

A lot of the muck of the last 40 years needs to be put into the dumpster.

It could be an exciting time, especially for those of us who believe, as you've stated, that our treasures should be in heaven where moths and rust do not corrupt.

Fascinating read. Optimistic. I’ll have to read this one 2 or 3 times (and I’ll probably be offline all day tomorrow).

Thanks for posting; thanks very much for the ping. /
