SNIPPET: "A citizen dropped off a backpack full of pipe bombs at an East County sheriff's substation this afternoon, prompting the closure of the precinct house along with part of the thoroughfare in front of the building.
The bag was brought to the lobby of the Santee Sheriff's Station on Cuyamaca Street about 2 p.m., sheriff's Lt. Mike Munsey said."
SNIPPET: "After determining that the seven cylinders in the bag were pipe bombs, an explosives team removed them from the building and used remote-control equipment to safely detonate them in the late afternoon.
Authorities re-opened the street about 5 p.m.
Deputies were questioning the person who brought the home-made grenades to the station, sheriff's Sgt. Damon Blankenbaker told News 8. The origin of the bombs was not immediately clear."

Ok, here’s a reminder...
Incredibly it’s common for people to bring in the most unusual things inside a police department...
REMINDER: If you see something suspicious (a possible bomb, for example); DO NOT pick it up. Contact local law enforcement and let them handle it.

One time my husband, 12 year old son and I walked up to the entrance of the Beverly Hills Police Department to deliver a tin of cookies from the mother of one of the detectives. We had met her in a different city up the coast of California, and when she learned that we were going to be visiting Beverly Hills, she asked us to take the cookies to her son.
When we saw the Very Concerned look on the faces of the officers, we realized how threatening even a cookie tin can look, when it is being carried towards a police station.
What? A bag OF pipe bombs? What kind of misleading headline is that?
Yes...that’s IT! Bagpipe bombs! LOL. Or maybe just the PERFORMANCE bombed! LOL.
That's a lot of explosive. They should have used a double san tee.
*groan*
Smiling at you...it could be someone brought something interesting the day before.
